Ars Technica Reviews Leaked Windows 8.1 Update

rikkards Re:Nobody cares (194 comments)

Strange, the first time you log on there is supposed to be a quick tutorial showing the hover features. I decided when I built my new computer to jump to 8.1. I wouldn't have jumped to 8 though but I have to say it's fine once you get used to the changes. I do admit some of the changes left me scratching my head but I am sure if moving to another OS I would have gone through the same familiarization. With that in mind, I could see this being a point where people choose to move elsewhere since it's almost the same learning curve.

Probably because at one point someone was looking at porn at work, a coworker sued for sexual harrasment and won.

None of his revelations were surprising. Granted there are probably some that got sadistic glee in doing the job but I am sure most are in it for a paycheck.

Sorry to tell you but overdubbing US made movies into French does not a culture make.

The Quebec culture is a shadow of what it once was.

Microsoft Extends Updates For Windows XP Security Products Until July 2015

rikkards Re:*sigh* (417 comments)

Should clarify that is 19000 workstations and 1000 workstations a day and increasing. We probably won't meet the deadline of April 1 we were told to meet but we will be pretty close

Ask Slashdot: Suggestions For a Simple Media Server?

rikkards Re:Raspberry PI (420 comments)

That's what I am talking about. Essentially from what I gleaned is the skip doesn't get the full data frame it only starts with the data at that specific second so until the screen changes enough or the next frame refresh you will only see the changes.

Note: terminology is probably wrong but you get my gist.

Microsoft Extends Updates For Windows XP Security Products Until July 2015

rikkards Re:*sigh* (417 comments)

For us, (approx 100,000) clients the biggest stumbling block was app compatability. 19000 in and going, we are doing about 1000 a day. Small kinks here and there but seems to be going well

Ask Slashdot: Suggestions For a Simple Media Server?

rikkards Re:Raspberry PI (420 comments)

My biggest complaint is the grey screen issue if you skip . Only issues I playing files otherwise is it stutters on a literal 1080p rip of blu-ray.

Ford Rolls the Dice With Breakthrough F-150 Aluminum Pickup Truck

rikkards Re:And I Will Stop Buying... (521 comments)

The YJ and CJ owners forget the rest and focus on the inner cockpit. Granted my TJ has a tad too much plastic but at least it didn't have a Renault transmission and you got the Dana 44 rear axle and there is a hell of a lot less sticking out under your jeep than earlier models plus with a small trimming you can fit 35's easily on your jeep without any breakage.

The skins were the same back then 16 gauge, no difference

Roku Finally Adds YouTube To Its Iconic Media Player

rikkards Re:What I would prefer... (80 comments)

I originally looked at WDTV Live when I got tired of the whirring fan on my XBMC HTPC. I hated it as I found it was too many clicks to get to my video shares. At that point I went with a Pi based instead However since then they have added shortcuts. The reason I picked the Roku was we needed something that played netflix since XBMC on Linux won't do it. We also picked Roku as there were some channels on it that other settop boxes didnt have. I would probably have gotten the Live otherwise.

Roku Finally Adds YouTube To Its Iconic Media Player

rikkards Re:Thank God, the ONE thing that was missing to ma (80 comments)

I HATE the search functionality on Hulu Plus but I didn't renew my supscription after the first three months expired. Now the only thing I use my Roku for is Netflix and PBS since we cut the cord.

Roku Finally Adds YouTube To Its Iconic Media Player

rikkards Re:What I would prefer... (80 comments)

I mainly use XBMC (my DNS server is on one of them) which consists of a home brew and a Pi. Problem is no access to Netflix unless you are running windows. Not doing that.

Roku Finally Adds YouTube To Its Iconic Media Player

rikkards Re:What I would prefer... (80 comments)

Hint: no its not IOW citiation please as in this isn't my first rodeo and the 20 page manual is crap.
Which page are you talking about (by the way I am not using wireless) and everything I have seen online states it doesn't support Static. In the Setup Network all you get to choose is if it is Wired or Wireless and nothing available menu wise other than the wireless stuff for setting SSID, etc.

What I did to work around was setup my bind DNS to provide a different DNS forwarder for anything for only netflix and Hulu than what I have for everything else. The advantage of this is that it is more secure than just having it redirect blindly which all of the DNS Redirects. Maybe a little paranoid but it works.

PS you are a douche

Roku Finally Adds YouTube To Its Iconic Media Player

rikkards What I would prefer... (80 comments)

is static IP configuration and ability to play more media types from USB than what it does. I use DNS Redirect to get access to US Netflix and Hulu and had to jump hurdles to get the Roku 3 to work. Also I was hoping for something I could take with me in luggage when I travel so I could watch stuff in a hotel room on business. Last time I brought 4 different files and none of them worked. That was my fault for not confirming but would be nice.

Fans??

rikkards rikkards writes  |  more than 8 years ago

Got bored at work (no surprise there) and went looking at my stats on /.

Suprisingly I have 2 fans. Hi Fans! Colour me flattered.

My question is why? What could I have possibly done to get me to deserve this? Ok maybe I am putting too much into this but makes me wonder...

P.S should I be worried about this post to my journal going down on my permanent record? My parents and teachers used to threaten me with that in school and fat lot of a difference that made :)
