YouTube Ditches Flash For HTML5 Video By Default

robbyb20 Re:Adobe (224 comments)

Im sorry but you are incredibly misinformed about normal usage of CC. When i create a file in CC, everything is done locally on my machine. Could you image having to upload 25meg raw files to "the cloud" each time i open on and from there, opening up 300mb-1gb .psd each time? Did Adobe just give ever user unlimited storage? No body that uses these products on a professional level saves their work to the cloud. That said, the argument about losing files saved the cloud can apply to every single cloud service on the market. Btw, did you see my test i posted? I opened a CC file just fine on another computer running cs5. Also, did you know that that even tho it says Creative Cloud, its still a locally installed app?

For record, I have 3tb of photos at home. I am a photographer. I work in this product daily, do you as well?

Lest think about this for a moment.

New features are added that aren't supported in older versions. Does this only affect Adobe products? What about products from AutoCAD? Do you think Revit 2006 can do everything Revit 2014 can?

Yes, older products don't gain the functionality of the newer ones, that's why they come out with new product. What was originally said was CC created files wouldn't open in non-CC versions. Having features not available in older products should be expected. I'm not seeing the issue being raised.

YouTube Ditches Flash For HTML5 Video By Default

robbyb20 Re:Adobe (224 comments)

Ok, I tested it and it works. Using the latest CC photoshop i created a file, saved to my desktop and transfered it over to a computer with CS5 on it. Opened up right away. I didnt do any export on the original file, just saved as psd.

Can you link to an article with Adobe stating this?

The day flash disappears permanently is the day I rejoice. I uninstalled flash on my home computers months ago. The only thing that doesn't work now are those damn videos on Facebook. Good riddance.

robbyb20 Re:Adobe (224 comments)

If Adobe fails to exist, whos stopping them from obtaining an older version thats not cloud based. A .psd is the same, no matter what version you open it with. Also, most people dont save their regular pictures in .psd unless edited and even then, the only real benefit is to retain layers. They are saved in jpeg or the corresponding raw format for their camera which is readable by other programs other than photoshop and lightroom.

Parents Investigated For Neglect For Letting Kids Walk Home Alone

robbyb20 Re:One mile? (784 comments)

Agreed. I walked to school and it was about 1 mile. I also rode my bike to the baseball fields and that was about 3 miles. Its sad to see things change like this.

Uber Suspends Australian Transport Inspector Accounts To Block Stings

robbyb20 Re:Extradition? (299 comments)

Dont forget taxi drivers do this as well. This is not Ubers fault, but im glad its easier to track them down since you have all of their information in electronic form. You know why? Because who remembers the taxi number of the cab you just got out of, especially if youre drunk.

US Slaps Sanctions On North Korea After Sony Cyberattack

Or, maybe your understanding of the history of our political parties isn't so strong. Sorry for the not so technical reference but it gives you an idea of what I'm mean. Or political parties believe systems swapped slowly over time.

BT, Sky, and Virgin Enforce UK Porn Blocks By Hijacking Browsers

robbyb20 Re:Happened to me. (294 comments)

My thoughts exactly. OR, since it's required by law to submit your choice, they could always suspend your service till you call/log into account/ mail choice to the appropriate authorities. Yes, this whole thing is bogus but everyone getting their panties in a bunch because the page they visited redirected them to another getting the info straight away is redic.

BT, Sky, and Virgin Enforce UK Porn Blocks By Hijacking Browsers

robbyb20 Re:Legal? (294 comments)

Not sure these really correlate well. What kind of hijacking are you implying? Do you own their network? How is asking someone to update their terms of service before browsing considered hijacking? I do think its baloney they even have to opt out/in for such a thing but I dont see how asking them their preference before continuing on is a problem.

Uber Limits 'God View' To Improve Rider Privacy

robbyb20 Re:Decentralization (76 comments)

Agreed on the horrible PR. I can see why they would post this in hopes to let people understand why and how increasing the price will get more drivers in the area but its just in bad taste IMO.

French Cabbies Say They'll Block Paris Roads On Monday Over Uber

robbyb20 Re:To hell with taxis... (295 comments)

May I assume youre one of those people that use taxis about twice a year? If so, I can understand why Uber doesnt appeal to you. I use taxi/driving services at least 2-3 times a week, if not more. I also just tallied what I have spent on Uber(not including curb side pickup) this year which totals to $1494.28. I am someone who uses services like this a lot, I definitely have an authority on what is more convenient or not which is what Uber provides.

If the regular taxi companies cant get their shit together and become more reliable(why i dont call taxi dispatch services anymore), i am going to use a service that does work and that happens to be Uber.

FYI - where I live(chicago), Uber incorporates Taxis as well as black cars, all which are licensed. Taxis turn theirs on during the downtime of the day to pick up fares but youd be lucky to find any during busy times when they can pick up customers on the street. Disruptive? Not at all to the driver, they make money during off times with it. Its the cab companies that dont like it.

Evolve or die. Plain and simple. I dont see why people have so much hatred towards a service, especially if the majority of the population doesnt used it according to you.

French Cabbies Say They'll Block Paris Roads On Monday Over Uber

robbyb20 Re: To hell with taxis... (295 comments)

In the sense that I know exactly what I'm paying for because it's spelled out to me before I get in the car, yes. Taxis can charge whatever they want.

Taxi
Oh, my meters broken, I forgot to tell you.
Sorry, my cc reader doesn't work, I'll need cash
Sorry, my cc reader doesn't work, I'll take a carbon copy of you card to run later
How about I take around half the city before arriving at your destination

Uber
Hi, are you Rob? Great, want to take the way recommended by the app since you out in your destination?

That's it for uber. No haggling. No questioning what the rate is. It just works and you know what you're getting into before hand and have a receipt issued with all info including route emailed to you.

French Cabbies Say They'll Block Paris Roads On Monday Over Uber

robbyb20 Re:To hell with taxis... (295 comments)

And if they got ripped off, who regulates that? How would you know? With uber, everything is tracked and cabbies CANT rip you off because they don't have control over the fare.

French Cabbies Say They'll Block Paris Roads On Monday Over Uber

robbyb20 Re:Finally some HONESTY (295 comments)

I never said anything about regulations. I talked about the reliability of taxis who aren't in the uber network and why I don't use them.

If yellow cab, 312, 303, checker, etc could improve their reliability then I would certainly use their direct services more often. Since the regulated taxis haven't addressed that, I'll stick with the regulated taxis/black cars in the uber network.

French Cabbies Say They'll Block Paris Roads On Monday Over Uber

robbyb20 Re:Finally some HONESTY (295 comments)

Yes, you pay more for the different tiers. Uberx is cheaper and depending on the driver, I've had extremely nice cars with water provided if you want. Taxis are the regular taxi charge and black cars a tiny amount more. I am someone who pays $30-50 a night in car services so it's really great to have the different options available.

French Cabbies Say They'll Block Paris Roads On Monday Over Uber

robbyb20 Re:Finally some HONESTY (295 comments)

Maybe what we should look at is why uber is so successful. I don't use regular taxi services(call for taxi) because they never come or it takes up to an hour or more for them to arrive. With uber, they place me in touch not only with taxis, but uberx(personal cars), SUVs and black cars(licensed livery service). I get picked up in 10 min max each time with usual turn around time in the 2-5 min range.

Maybe if taxis were more reliable, they wouldn't have gotten themselves in this situation. Uber is filling a void in service because taxis can't deliver that and the public wants something more convenient.
