35% of American Adults Have Debt 'In Collections'

romco Re:Not surprised. (570 comments)

It does not have to harm your credit rating. You are right make them prove it. Look up "debt validation letter" and send them one (hurry up, you have 30 days from when they first sent you a letter) . Send it registered. Once you you have conformation they got it pull your credit report (annualcreditreport.com). If they are reporting it contest it with the credit reporting agencies.

If they validate the debt on your credit report without sending you validation of the debt you can sue them.

35% of American Adults Have Debt 'In Collections'

romco Re:Not surprised. (570 comments)

>Once you have something go into collections it is always there until you pay it.

It can stay on your report for up to 7 years AFTER you pay it. Sometimes with an old debt paying it will hurt your credit more than it will help. It is possible to get a medical debt off after you pay it but it requires time and effort on your part.

FWD.us: GOP Voters To Be Targeted By Data Scientists

romco Re:Secure Border Before Amnesty (422 comments)

All you have to do to get rid of illegal immigration is have inforced substantial fines for the people who employ them. Both sides want immigration but the republicans want it to take as long as possible before they can vote (if ever).

Cuba: US Using New Weapon Against Us -- Spam

romco Re:The amusing thing is... (139 comments)

>feds just itching to go fight the last war

I don't think the feds want to go to war. Cuba is communist and parts of it work. (like health care for the amount they spend). If they lifted the embargo and stop messing with them they could become a very successful communist country.

The success would be more due to them being a great tourist location and less because they are communist but the right wing is simply not going to tolerate a successful communist county if they can do anything about it.

Australia May 'Pause' Trades To Tackle High-Frequency Trading

romco Re:Won't work (342 comments)

>By delaying orders on all exchanges by 500ms, the benefit of early-access to incoming orders on any particular exchange is eliminated because all the exchanges will have 500ms of order price discovery incorporated into their SIP, the consolidated price representing the aggregate of the best prices for all the exchanges.

If you delay everyone 1/2 second some servers will still have an advantage. I think the 1 to 5 second delay would work better.

romco Re:Unconscionable Contract clause (519 comments)

> dispute the credit reports

Dispute it with kleargear.com first. Then dispute with the credit reporting agency. Use registered mail so you have proof.

If they verify you owe them money sue them under the FDCPA in federal court for attempting to collect a debt that is not due. ($1000 per offence plus any legal costs)

Let them try to prove a contract exists in federal court.

Edward Snowden's New Job: Tech Support

romco Re:idiot (328 comments)

since the u.s. claims global jurisdiction over its citizens regardless of where they travel to or reside, and he is still one, now he's gonna have to file taxes.... that means if they don't know it yet, by april 15th, the feds will know his address... and if he doesn't file, he can then be arrested on tax evasion.. even if what he's done already ends up being legal whistleblowing.

Cant he just use a PO box for his address?

So you are saying that Fox is presenting serious news about issues that will actually affect millions of Americans while everyone else is focusing on pushing hyped-up violence to get eyeballs.

Apple Starts Blocking Unauthorized Lightning Cables With iOS 7

romco Unauthorized works for usb to my computer (663 comments)

Unauthorized works for usb to my computer. I have not tried it charging. I have a mac cable (that came with my ipad) for charging and a cheap cable to hook up usb.

I remember a little while ago someone managed to electrocute themselves with an unauthorized cable/charger on an iphone. That may have played into them doing this with IOS7.

Florida DOT Cuts Yellow Light Delay Ignoring Federal Guidelines, Citations Soar

romco Government killing people for money. (507 comments)

I worked as a traffic accident investigator for a few years. Part of my job was figuring out the timing of traffic lights and if they were the cause of an accident. Shortening yellow lights kills people, old people and big trucks dont stop very fast. This is the Florida government killing people for money.

The really sad part is if they were really clever they would shorten the yellow 1/2 a second but keep the whole intersection red for a 1/2 a second. That way they could rip off Floridians without killing them.

ACLU Questions Privacy of License Plate Scanners

romco Re:Use a Frame (246 comments)

I have a bike rack on the back of my car. Makes it very hard to read the plate without moving around a bit as bar that sticks up always covers at least one number. Never had a problem with cops with it.

Meet the Robisons and Their Low-Cost RepRap Kit (Video)

romco Older unit (67 comments)

I have a reprap on my desk. Last week I printed an adaptor for a new ssd harddrive and and couple of mike clips. I use it all the time. Cost me ~$500 to build and about a weeks tinkering to get it right. I could get one tweeked in a day or less now.

I dont recommend buying a built one as they are still at the model "T" stage and require a lot of tinkering to get them going. If you build it all the tinkering will make sense.

In the video they have a original mendel.

If you are starting out I recommend a Prusa Mendel, cheaper and better.

your first step is to go to IRC and look up #reprap in Freenode and talk to the people in the room. Its not uncommon to find the very people who are designing these (Like Mr. Prusa) in the room.
