Does Net Neutrality Violate the Fifth Amendment?

rootofevil Re:riiiiight (341 comments)

those telephone poles are on somebodys land. and if its under a public road, that means its essentially govt property and they gave them the right to run it there. note that i dont agree with that - most cable/fiber/buried copper ive seen has run at or near the edge of a private property line, covered by a public utility easement that most property owners are forced to comply with.

"Cumulative Voting" Method Gaining Attention

rootofevil Re:Sigh... (375 comments)

in some states getting an absentee ballot requires demonstrating actual inability to get to the polling place. examples include disability, lack of transportation, etc. so that its not just a preference, rather only for those who have no other option.

"Cumulative Voting" Method Gaining Attention

rootofevil Re:Sigh... (375 comments)

so its fair to punish the candidate that actually gets 51% of eligible voters to vote for them, simply because they are the wrong color?

"Cumulative Voting" Method Gaining Attention

rootofevil Re:Sigh... (375 comments)

i would note that im also a strong supporter of not having a single polling day and allowing for anyone who wants an absentee ballot to have one. this will eliminate the 'oh but its so difficult for people to make it to the polling place when they work 3 jobs' whining.

"Cumulative Voting" Method Gaining Attention

rootofevil Re:Sigh... (375 comments)

In other words, "fair representation" means non-whites lording it over white people.

So, you believe it's right that 51% of the people can have 100% of the representation.

If the other 49% cant be bothered to go in and vote, yes absolutely.

There are several commonly cited causes for the lack of minority participation in the voting process and having representation in elected office, most of which lead to a lack of representation in the actually vote itself.

Tornado Scientists Butt Heads With Storm Chasers

rootofevil Re:Just as much right? (402 comments)

yea, 'people get in my way when i perform exceptionally dangerous tasks for my job that create additional unnecessary threats to my life and theirs' does sound awful whiny.

would you also believe it whiny if, for example, people started invading steel mills just for the thrill, and the steelworkers complained? or lets be a little more congruent, thrill seekers that go out during a hurricane to watch the coast guard rescue people from distressed vessels, to which the media aired stories featuring coastguardsmen warning people not to do that?

Traffic-Flow Algorithm Can Reduce Fuel Consumption

rootofevil Re:Poorly designed vehicle detectors (328 comments)

if you dont drive a car, you dont pay NEARLY as much as anyone else on the road. gas taxes are the primary source for road funding. you dont buy gas, ergo you dont pay to maintain the roads.
