Test Version Windows 10 Includes Keylogger

sensationull Only in a box (367 comments)

And that just relegated it to only ever being in a virtual machine, trapped in a cage where it belongs. Sorry MS, a key logger is a few steps too far even for a preview, sure monitor the hell out of it but a privacy destroying key logger is a few steps too far. It's a shame as it does look like a nice OS even caged.

Xbox One Will Play Media from USB Devices, DLNA Servers

sensationull I read this article differently: (112 comments)

You can play most media formats over DLNA, you just need to push the file to the Xbox One that acts as a DMR, there is no pull interface on the device which is stupid. It can't play MKV, just like Windows Media player.

I use DLNA daily, I guess we both don't exist.

Xbox One Will Play Media from USB Devices, DLNA Servers

sensationull Re:Wow, flash drives? (112 comments)

It can read h.264 just not in the MKV container. MP4 is fine though just like it is when using DLNA push to the Xbox One. I do wish they would remove the Xbox watermark from every video it plays though, I know I own a freaking Xbox already.

Xbox One Will Play Media from USB Devices, DLNA Servers

sensationull So can a $30 TV stick (112 comments)

DLNA is better as it is less bandwidth and power hungry and does not require as much hardware at each end. I use the Windows 7 DLNA from my pc to my Samsung TV and my networked home theatre all the time just fine. It just won't play MKV through it. The Windows 8 one on the other hand sucks as they have yanked a bunch of the compatibility. Miracast does solve a problem of sending your actual screen contents but the two are not really the same thing, they can be used as the same thing but really one is for passing out media files where you can still use the device, the other is casting the screen to a bigger screen which can be handy but in many cases just means you should have been using a different device to start with.

Ask Slashdot: Bulletproof Video Conferencing For Alzheimers Home?

sensationull Re:Skype on Xbox one (194 comments)

Nice but it's a totally viable smart solution, is not an Apple or Linux product and worst of all is a Microsoft product. Be prepared to be modded to hell for this one, this site is not about good answers anymore.

Ask Slashdot: Bulletproof Video Conferencing For Alzheimers Home?

sensationull Re:FaceTime (194 comments)

Right... cause everyone HAS to hold an iPad to use it. Cause iPads can't be plugged in like TVs. Cause iPads can't integrate into a sound system. Cause Alzheimers patients far enough along to require assisted living will remember how to undo any channel changes or plug cords that get pulled.

Wait so your solution to the simple wireless ipad - better because it does not need cords plugged in - is to plug cords and devices into it making it way more complicated. Have you heard yourself. A smartTV is also soooo complex, with the single power lead, the built in wifi and camera on some models. It is all of two button presses on the remote to get to Skype and it is not like there are not nurses about that would be helping anyway. Add to that, the latest gen ones take voice and gesture input so a nurse would not even need the remote if they did not want to.

Put the thing on a trolley or mounted in a room or the lounge and you're sorted. You can even get wireless keyboards if you really want to type in the Skype names even though that would be unnecessary.

Ask Slashdot: Bulletproof Video Conferencing For Alzheimers Home?

sensationull Re:FaceTime (194 comments)

Shh, this isn't about the solution its about forcing more Apple shit into the market. So what if it isolates people from their families, at least the Appleites are getting some more fuel for their religion.

I have dealt with Apple crap through a number of MDMs including their own PoS offering and while they can work it takes a ton of effort to get around all the stupid nonsence. Kiosk mode Skype probably would work.

To the idiot who was complaining that the tv would have too many cables then recommended plugging in the ipad to a sound system and a TV perhaps an all in one device with all that would work better. I'm sure they have nurses too so either solution would probably work fine depending on them.

Ask Slashdot: Bulletproof Video Conferencing For Alzheimers Home?

sensationull FaceTime (194 comments)

Yea, because those MDMs work without a hitch an nothing ever goes wrong with an iPad. There is also no possibility the patients would suffer from anything like arthritis that might make holding it up or using the small onscreen controls difficult. They also never run out of power or suffer from battery degradation over time.

Use the Samsung TV method above, nice big screen, loud speakers to compensate for hearing or vision loss.

Honestly, not every solution is an iPad or an Apple product.

How Many Members of Congress Does It Take To Pass a $400MM CS Bill?

sensationull Re:Sorry, but... why? (180 comments)

Have you tried Slashdot beta, that squeezes more web app stuff in, the older/better version uses far less and the better version before that used even less web app JS nightmare fuel. The thing is the more heavy and 'modern' you make a web app the worse it gets.

Microsoft's CEO Says He Wants to Unify Windows

sensationull Great, and whats the bet... (322 comments)

and what's the bet they pull the same "sorry it won't run on your hardware", BS they did with Windows Phone 7. If they pull that again My lovely Nokia will be covered in cow excrement and lobbed through their reception area. They need to keep the existing Phone users on board or their "unification" is for shit. Windows 9 looks like it may be a keel haul for consumers anyway with its "always online, do you rent this" check, they may as well sell it through Steam, they would probably get more purchases that way.

Microsoft CEO To Slash 18,000 Jobs, 12,500 From Nokia To Go

sensationull Crap, Nokia were the ones making... (383 comments)

the WP8 platform worthwhile, the slow ineffectual lot at MS has been messing about for ages now and still can't open their own stupid winmail.dat files on a WP8, they know to as they hide it rather than fixing it. Sack the MS staff and keep the nokia ones, I still can't just press play on my BT stereo and have it work if the app is not pre-loaded. It used to work then they broke it in WP8.1 and despite feedback have not fixed it. What the fuck is wrong with them, have they never owned a phone before.

Should the U.S. bomb Syria?

sensationull Re:Chemical Weapons Suck (659 comments)

If lives were important, we'd be in Africa solving poverty and treatable disease.

If they were important the US may even try to tackle those things within their own borders as well.

Ask Slashdot: Enterprise Level Network Devices For Home Use?

sensationull Re:Huh? (241 comments)

Exactly this, the old stuff keep's going, the new stuff is junk. Dynalink made an epicly bad adsl2 modem which our isps were giving out. Burnt out one every three months with basic use, hooked up through ups and line surge protectors running at about 10mbits. The things were just that poorly put together with bga chips, inadequate cooling and memory. Got through four a year under warranty.

In comparison I still have some old adsl gear that works, tops out at 8mb but at least it was designed not just badly copied by some clueless Chinese foundry somewhere for the lowest possible cost for the highest possible profit.

Steve Ballmer Replaces Don Mattrick As Xbox One Chief

sensationull Well, that seals it... (343 comments)

What little chance it had left it has now lost, tell us Steve, how much more boxy are you going to make it, how many more user hostile features are you going to add, what useful features can be stripped out and replaced by junk. By the time it launches it will be able to search for your keys in 30 different languages, tell you are about to have a heart attack, that you are due for a prostate check and that you have 50 new marketing emails from facebook. The one thing it won't be able to do is play games.

Yeap, also a nice little monoculture for Apple to exploit too, next up government subsidies for Apple directly, have they found oil somewhere. Meet the new MS of old, just twice as nasty.

Flash Player for Windows Mobile

sensationull sensationull writes  |  more than 7 years ago

sensationull (889870) writes "I was looking at the new Microsoft labs project Deepfish and noticed that lots of people were complaining about the lack of flash support for Windows Mobile and how they had better get to it. So this is just a reminder to everyone that there is already support provided directly by Adobe for Flash on Windows Mobile here for Windows Mobile 2003 at least."
