Ban On Photographing Near Gulf Oil Booms
Wonder how long it will take for the geniuses in the field to figure out that if you create a barrier out of booms, along the width of the beach, you've now effectively blocked off the entire area.
You could effectively totally block several miles of beach by the simple placement of a few 100 feet of boom on either end. No different than a police barrier or crime scene tape. "Do not pass".
Except that's not what they're selling us here, supposedly. 65 feet my ass.
Doctor Slams Hospital's "Please" Policy
Just a stab in the dark here but here's my theory:
Lab and tech are short-staffed on weekends and make a request of management to have docs not submit requests that can wait until Monday.
Management agrees, says they will have Docs only submit urgent request, and for some boneheaded reason decide the best way to do this is have urgent requests marked "Please" instead of, oh, I don't know... maybe "urgent"?
Docs rightly feel this is stupid, more because of the choice of words than because of the principle behind it. Probably also quite a bit of "If I didn't need it now, I wouldn't request it now" sentiment.
House Votes To Expand National DNA Arrest Database
How hard would it have been to include language that forces the DNA sample and any record of it to be destroyed if your arrest does not result in a conviction?
T-Mobile's First HSPA+ Modem Goes On Sale Sunday
Guess I will stick with my unlimited EDGE for $20/month then, TMO. It may only be a pathetic 20kbyte/sec or so but I can do that speed all month long for $20, no caps.
Women refuse to go through Airport body scanners
From TFA: "The images are not erotic or pornographic and they cannot be stored or captured in any way," she said.
Hmm. Meaning, of course, that the scanners have no (obvious) way of doing a "save as".
As usual it'll take about 5 seconds for the average operator to figure out "Hey I could just take a picture of the screen!"
So.. I assume this to mean that employees don't get to bring their camera equipped phones in to work then? Or that THEY are strip searched for digital cameras and such?
US Government Poisoned Alcohol During Prohibition
It's a good thing we no longer do things like that. You know, like add tylenol (APAP) to opiate painkillers so that if you abuse them you die of liver failure. Cause that wouldn't be cool at all.
Halo 'No Longer Just a Game' For Microsoft
Yes, almost funny that their #1 exclusive got leaked again. At least this time it's only a few days. If I remember correctly Halo 2 was leaked WAY in advance (but, oddly enough, in French, made for a very humorous game - "Ah Oui Chef!"). But even so, MS is probably fuming at all the (dumb) people playing it on live already...
