Sony Announces 'Superslim' PS3

slashmatteo Hardrive size discrepencies (165 comments)

Note that Sony US announced two models: one with a 250 GB hardrive and the other with a 500 GB one (link). Sony Europe announced a 12 GB model and an other one with a 500 GB HD (link). 12 GB seems quite suprising for modern games (GTA IV: 3.5 GB required... you won't install many games !) and sony pushing for the use of playstation network an the playstatin store...

How many countries have you visited?

slashmatteo Re:I've nearly last count... (958 comments)

It is pretty simple: 300 miles are: 99.9 US leagues (not to be confused with UK leagues) or 528000 yards or 1584000 feet

At What Temperature (F) Do You Prefer Your Nerd Cave?

slashmatteo Re:Metric: like the rest of the World! (1233 comments)

Ok, excuse me for not being explicit enough, the term "metric" was indeed coined by some "bunch of frenchmen"...

At What Temperature (F) Do You Prefer Your Nerd Cave?

slashmatteo Re:Metric: like the rest of the World! (1233 comments)

Metric. by the way, is actually American. It was Ben Franklin who came up with the system

As with most of the things that are claimed without citing sources, this is dubious. Why would Benjamin Franklin name an International System "SI" as in the french: "Systeme International" ? Why not have a look in an encyclopedia and see what they say about that ?

Disney Buys Marvel

slashmatteo Re:Bye bye marvel... (423 comments)

Nice comment, but there is a flaw in your thinking: you forgot that it is not the 6 years old that are buying, but their parents.

Blizzard Answers Your Questions and More

slashmatteo Why do you care ? (368 comments)

I really enjoyed Blizzard games up to Starcraft included. But then WoW was out, and in a same way that many WoW players seem disconnected from reallity, it disconnected Blizzard from reallity. They now live in a world where millions of people are giving them 10 bucks a month in order to connect to a MMORPG, making them feel that if a player buys a game that he can play for 18 months, he will be willing to pay $180, that no LAN connection is no big deal, etc. They just do not live in the same world as we do. The main reason I won't play Starcraft 2 by the way is not about money or LAN, but on a lower level: no linux port.

First full observable universe simulation

slashmatteo slashmatteo writes  |  more than 2 years ago

slashmatteo (1606315) writes "The goal of the DEUS project (Dark Energy Universe Simulation) is to investigate the imprints of dark energy on cosmic structure formation through high-performance numerical simulations. In order to do so, the project has conducted a simulation of the structuring of the entire observable universe, from the Big Bang to the present day. Thanks to the Curie super-computer, the simulation has made it possible to follow the evolution of 550 billion particles. Two other complementary runs are scheduled by the end of May. More details on the press release."
