The Science Behind Powdered Alcohol

I assumed it was short for Margarita, a tequila-based cocktail which is not that delicious to start with.

Drone Made of Lego Takes Flight

starsky51 Re:Conditioned Much? (83 comments)

That's no fun. I'm pretty sure the OP is right and this is part of an insidious government plot to legitimise the use of terminator drones. Conspiracy!

Scientists Store Entire Textbook In DNA

starsky51 Re:Take it one step further (160 comments)

This would be the equivalent of adding comments into some source code and expecting the compiled program to impart the knowledge. Cool idea, but we won't be programming genius babies this way.

ICANN Reveals New TLD Application List

I'm more interested in the domains registered by donut.co. Each one is registered under a different LLC with company names that look like they have been auto generated.

Climate Change To Drive Weather Disasters, Say UN Experts

starsky51 Re:It's more than just global warming gas (572 comments)

How about the 5 nonillion (5 x 10^30) bacteria that are all farting out "global warming gas"? I'm actually coming round to the human contribution to global warming idea, but saying "7 billion is a big number" doesn't persuade me.

Apple Threatens To Pull Siri Clone From App Store

starsky51 Re:Is this Apple or MS? (251 comments)

I just bought myself an iPod Touch for 150 GBP. My first Apple device. It's reliable, well crafted and easy to use. And, despite the 'proprietary lock-in hell', I'm still able to use Chrome, MS Office and Photoshop - on my laptop.

It's nice to take a stroll around a walled garden from time to time. You should try it.

Adobe Makes Flash on GNU/Linux Chrome-Only

starsky51 Re:Stupid marketing from google (404 comments)

I don't think they're going after Linux users. They are more likely ensuring that their Chromebooks are able to run the sites that the other 96% of users use.

Type Safety Coming To DB Queries

starsky51 Re:Gibberish - wrapped up as geekspeak (128 comments)

I dont think it was awful as submissions go, but I suppose they could have clarified what a database is, what type-safe is, and what a query is.

To be fair, the title of the story was 'Type Safety Coming To DB Queries.' If you don't know what four of those six words mean, then it probably isn't for you.

One Week: No Mouse, Just Keyboard

Who still wants a keyboard with a numpad?

The numpad is the only way I can play Nethack. I could never get to grips with those VIM keys.

Rapid Browser Development Challenges Web Developers

starsky51 Re:Testing (221 comments)

Take a look at Spoon. It's a browser plugin that launches applications in their own virtualised environment. Meaning that different versions of the same browser can run alongside each other, without you having to con Windows into it.
