The Internet's Bad Neighborhoods

statsone Block some (77 comments)

ended up blocking anyone in China from accessing sites on my server. After seeing a lot of attacks from Seychelles (SC), blocked that country as well. A lot less spam and attacks.

Publisher Sues University Librarian Over His Personal Blog Posts

statsone No SLAPP (126 comments)

there is no SLAPP law currently on the books in either Canadian law or Ontario law.

But the publisher needs to be careful. If they loose, they have to pay the legal fees of the blog owner and the university.

The simple defence is to show the comments are true. Doesn't seem to be to hard.

Ask Slashdot: Keyboard Layout To Reduce Right Pinky/Ring Finger Usage?

statsone Get a programmable keyboard (165 comments)

I was having the problem with crtl c and v. A Logitech G110 has 12 programmable keys on the left side. I use the bottom 2 for copying and pasting which I use a lot in adding products to a website.

Ask Slashdot: How To Run a Small Business With Open Source Software?

statsone hard to do with most software (195 comments)

I took a quick look at gnucash and couldn't find anything on payroll. Accountant's copy was not found either.

As for the restaurant itself, you may have a touch time finding Point of Sale (POS) software.

Quickbooks is good, but you may also want to consider Simply Accounting. For some, the multiple currency is great (extra for Quickbooks). Some differences in pricing.

I would be careful of online software. Gets expensive paying every month and you are at the mercy of the provider.

Backup your data.

As some have suggested, use software on the market and donate to open source.

In Canada this would be clearly income tax evasion and would land a the company corporate fine and directors in jail. Same should happen in the UK.

Ask Slashdot: My Host Gave a Stranger Access To My Cloud Server, What Can I Do?

statsone Call the police (176 comments)

the signer of the document made a false statement. Located in Canada, she (Natale Waboose) can be charged with uttering a forged document, fraud, and interfering with a computer.(I am not looking up the sections of the Criminal Code or their correct name)

Regardless of who owns the site (learning-together.ca), one can't gain access to an account and transfer on their own.

Rackspace really blew it this time.

Does Higher Health Care Spending Lead To Better Patient Outcomes?

The articles concludes with "Among Ontario hospitals." The US is not mentioned. So why ask "What are we doing different in the U.S.?" in the story headline?

Does Higher Health Care Spending Lead To Better Patient Outcomes?

statsone uh? (504 comments)

really? But it is universal and is paid for. And Canada spends was less than the US for health care and it is universal. No denial based on previous conditions, regardless of employment status, and with most medicines for seniors paid for,

I am in the same position. I will transfer registration as it come due for payment. It doesn't make sense for cash flow to transfer them all at the same time. I am looking for a new registrar now. Hosting will follow shortly. This will take a while.
