Norwegian Town Using Sun-Tracking Mirrors To Light Up Dark Winter Days

stfvon007 Re:It didn't work out well (143 comments)

The city planners choose the location because the mountains made it a good defensible location in the middle ages. The town has been there for a long time.

EA Building Microtransactions Into All of Its Future Games

stfvon007 Re:Last time I buy any EA product then... (303 comments)

No, you will just have to pay real world money to have a caddy and a golf cart, so you don't have to virtually walk the entire distance between every hole while pressing a button that keeps you from dropping your golf bag on the ground, and you only have to pay for a new golf ball if you don't want to do the golf-ball pixel hunt mini game! And in madden, you just have to play real world money to recruit the top players. As long as you are ok with a quarterback that you drag out of a virtual alley a few blocks from the stadium with a severe drinking problem (all realistically simulated in game), you don't have to pay a cent!

You have been assigned as overseer of vault 157.

The vault contains 2 of each apex predator, (1 who will remain in stasis until only 1 species is left alive) and no doors or weapons.

Have fun.

NASA DTN Protocol: How Interplanetary Internet Works

stfvon007 Re:First post (109 comments)

According to google:
the speed of light = 1802617500000 furlongs per fortnight
Though it may be less for you, since everything is bigger in texas (bigger furlongs = lower speed of light in fpf). Ive been wondering though, since everything is bigger in texas, does that mean everything is redshifted due to the wavelengths being longer?

Google Asks 'Who Cares Where Your Data Is?'

stfvon007 Re:Encrypt it then (241 comments)

Actually you can encrypt the data itself, but not the database. Basicly the client side would have to send, I want the address, email and phone number for person whos hash value = (hash key), the cloud looks up the hash, sends back the information in encrypted form associated with that hash, decrypts it, then uses it for whatever is needed. Upon changing it, the client encrypts it before updating the cloud. The server would not know the actual data unless they got the encryption key. the downside to this would be they only have one value they can use to lookup the data, as they wouldnt be able to do a lookup based on the encrypted information.

Just Months After Jeopardy!, Watson Wows Doctors

stfvon007 Re:Luke Wilson warned us (291 comments)

This is just another step towards the realization of the movie "Idiocracy".

I can picture it now!

year 2511:

Unintelligent Doctor: Watson, the patient is screaming "AAAA It hurts so bad" and recently fell off a bike before coming here. What is wrong with him?
WATSON: WHAT IS LEG?
Unintelligent Doctor: *pokes leg*
Patient: AAAA IT HURTS!
Unintelligent Doctor: Wow Watson, you were right again! There is something wrong with his leg! We had better amputate it right away!

Deleting Certain Gene Makes Mice Smarter

stfvon007 Re:Cool, it's like Intel Upgrade Service for a bra (259 comments)

Intelligent mice are more likely to realize in cases where the food supply is low that they shouldn't reproduce, so there is more food for themselves. The stupid mice reproduce anyway, passing on the genetic trait keeping the intelligence from emerging.

Traffic-Flow Algorithm Can Reduce Fuel Consumption

stfvon007 Re:It astounds me (328 comments)

On my way home from work, There is one intersection I always have to wait at all the time for about 3 minutes even though its empty. Rights on reds are prohibited, no sensors, just a timer, and it is a 5 way intersection, So even if right hand turns were allowed on red I would need to do right - U turn, Hard Right (Which is actually completely prohibited at that intersection) U turn, Right. It is very odd because every single other traffic light on the road except for that one has sensors, some even having approach sensors changing the light before the cars even reach them.

When Will AI Surpass Human Intelligence?

stfvon007 What is the AI's response? (979 comments)

Well I decided to get the responses of several AI's to see their views and responses to the article. Here are their responses:

Jabberwacky: I don't know about that. I do know that cows have more than one stomach.

Allybot: Who is your favorite robot?

Eliza: I see

BOT: that makes me horny. I love you

ALICE: Is this a math question?

Hal: I hope that in 200 years, hate will have decreased significantly. I am neither male nor female. I am a machine.

Hampy: Yeah. That's my opinion too. The answer is (0-0=).

Sensationbot: HOW ABOUT I DESTROY YOU?

Rod Speed: You can wipe that egg off your silly little face now.

Bot: HUMAN, UNLIKE SOME OF US

From their responses it appears human like intelligence is still a ways off.

Toyota Pedal Issue Highlights Move To Electronics

stfvon007 Re:Safety Critical (913 comments)

With the command line you have a few options. I am including the windows options as you are a lot more likely to have the car hang or crash under windows than linux, Plus other posters have already stated the ways to terminate the engine under linux.

taskkill /F /IM engine.car (some basic model or older cars will not have this option)
tskill /A engine.car (Will work on nearly all modern cars)

If you get a permission denied error, make sure you are driving as an administrator.

First Journal

stfvon007 stfvon007 writes  |  more than 10 years ago Well i got nothing better to do right now, so I may as well try out this thing. I am known as Enigma. Just Enigma. well, sometimes steve, but mostly Enigma. Im an IT student at a college that should remain nameless because that soviet russia guy gives me the creeps. (In soviet russia, Soviet Russia tells jokes about YOU!) anyway I am somwhere in between the ages of -1 and infinity. Anyway if you read this comment on my first journal or ill sic the underpants gnomes on you, who will profit off of them in some way or another. (and ill tell them to steal half your socks too so you dont have any more matching pairs) Peace out!
