I thought the same thing when I saw "quite well behaved".
Don't forget that Mac OS X also can't traverse DFS shares without third party software. Sure, I can look on my Windows box and see where the DFS share points to and map it directly, but I shouldn't have to do that either.

Don't forget Java. Out-of-date versions of Java are also largely responsible for infections. I'd actually love to have a way to see method of infection, whether it's Flash or Java. I've been able to tell sometimes simply because infected .jar files are detected in a scan of the system, but that's not really a reliable way of telling.
Flash updates seem to be much more reliable in terms of asking to install the update than Java. In 99.9% of infections, I see an out-of-date version of Java installed on the system.

What's the Best Way To Get Web Content To My TV?

strangel Re:Er, a PS3 (304 comments)

I have to agree. I haven't tried Hulu, but I know that YouTube has always worked perfectly on the PS3 even before they launched a PS3-friendly portal. A dedicated HTPC would still be the best solution, but a PS3 would be sufficient. You can even install linux on a PS3 (non-slim) if you desire.

State of Alabama Fighting NASA's New Plan

strangel Re:And keep the government off my Medicare! (340 comments)

(1) "Mayor Tommy Battle" and his "task force to include 25 community leaders" does not equate to Alabama congresscritters, Alabama citizens in general, or the tea party movement.

You are absolutely right. As an Alabamian, I can tell you that there are plenty of people here who aren't included in that. The political situation here is quite screwy, but appears to be on the brink of changing at least somewhat. The corrupt Birmingham mayor has been convicted and sentenced, the Jefferson County Commission is hopefully about to be overhauled (we're trying!), and public sentiment for our idiot governor seems to be sufficiently negative that we might have a chance of making that situation better as well.
What does this have to do with the topic at hand? Alabama is well-known for being "behind" in many ways. In fact, the running joke here is that the only state worse than us at many things is Mississippi. The point is that there are plenty of people who are trying to change this backwards system. Sure, there are plenty of people who support it as well, but don't just assume that the news reports are indicative of all of us.

On some terminals, pressing the backspace key causes the characters "^H" to display rather than showing the previous character being deleted as it should.
Therefore, it's commonly used as a humor device, to show that you started to type something and then backspaced it.
