If completed, the merger will create a telecom serving 37 states with about 5 million broadband customers and 17 million phone lines. Qwest (NYSE: Q) alone operates in Colorado and 13 other states. The two companies reported a combined $19.8 billion in revenues in 2009. The combined company would be the nation's No. 3 local-phone company, behind AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc."
