North Korea Training "Cyberwarriors" Abroad

stumblingblock Re:What could possibly go wrong? (128 comments)

What could go wrong? Try to find someone who has lived in Korea, esp. rural area. People who can be very devoted to their principals. Family being held just in case.

Chain Reactions Reignited At Fukushima

stumblingblock Re:Another good reason to switch to Thorium (234 comments)

Blame the cold war and american commitment to nuclear armament. There has to be a civilian Uranium/Plutonium industry to supply the weapons industry. Thorium cannot be weaponsized. Damn communists!!

stumblingblock Don't let it happen again (215 comments)

They just have to remove that key from the keyboard. You know, the one that massively crashes the entire system. Poor judgement to have that key there.

77 Million Accounts Stolen From Playstation Network

stumblingblock Re:Unencrypted = Stupid (645 comments)

Yes, it is likely that Sony will NEVER live down the installation of a rootkit on unsuspecting clients computers. So many otherwise responsible people will feel no sympathy for them, in fact they may ENJOY seeing Sony twist in the breeze. Unfortunate for their customers, but it shows how unwise it may be to be a Sony customer

Why Does the US Cling To Imperial Measurements?

Why Does the US Cling To Imperial Measurements?

stumblingblock Re:Not so bad to have different systems. (2288 comments)

The thing is, even if they are both based on arbitrary fundamental measures, SI units are self-consistent, while imperial measurements are not. So a lot of arbitrary constants are required in the US that are not needed elsewhere.

...and this self-consistency has exactly what advantage, please?

Why Does the US Cling To Imperial Measurements?

stumblingblock What's in it for me? (2288 comments)

For the average user, there will be no advantage. And years of a confusing transition. Sure, future generations may benefit, but what are the clear advantages? Do you remember the aborted transition in the 70's with highway signs in kilometers. Failed.

Japan Raises Nuclear Plant Crisis Severity To 7

stumblingblock Re:apologetic comments incoming (673 comments)

What do you expect? To admit that an engineering challenge cannot or should not be attempted would be...cowardly, unprofessional, and reflect badly on engineering in general. Go Nuclear!!!

Japan Raises Nuclear Plant Crisis Severity To 7

stumblingblock Re:And some people still wonder why... (673 comments)

Never mentioned are the many deaths caused by animal attacks while gathering firewood. Think of how many deaths would be avoided if people warmed themselves beside a nice warm nuclear fire rather than depending on wood. Not to mention deforestation.

Quakes and tsunamis are not preventable. Nuclear accidents are hopefully preventable. So when one happens, some humans f up.

Congressman Wants YouTube Video Covered Up

stumblingblock Re:Ah, the Republican Party ... (884 comments)

I agree that all our political parties suffer from limited integrity. Everyone, I think realizes this. What we really need is for someone who chooses to restate this obvious point to devote some research to finding some political organization somewhere that can be held up as an example of good behavior. If everyone is superior, no one is superior, when everyone is inferior...
