Apple TV on crappy old TV for audio?

sulli sulli writes  |  more than 7 years ago

So I was looking at Apple TV and realized that this is the perfect living room audio jukebox, with auto syncing to iTunes (unlike Squeezebox which only streams). But it only outputs via HDMI or component video, and my tv is way too old for that. Anyone have ideas on how to CHEAPLY convert component to S-Video or composite? I don't really care about video quality, I just want to see the menus to select music.

Ask the faithful remnant: Bluetooth headsets for concalls?

sulli sulli writes  |  more than 7 years ago

So I am on a lot of conference calls. Like 3-4 per day. And I often take these calls from a mobile phone (Treo) with a bluetooth headset. (Current one is from Plantronics, nothing fancy.)

Is there a headset that someone has built that is specifically optimized for conference calls? By which I mean, one with a one button or one motion mute? With the treo I have to use an on screen button to mute, which is a big pain when walking or driving. (Of course the headset has some weird option involving holding down a button or something, but that does not work if I can't look at it.)

Any ideas?

Por México no hay dos

sulli sulli writes  |  more than 7 years ago Nice win by the US Men's National Team against Mexico last night. 2-0 again! And Donovan looks like he is back in business after a crap world cup.

Now we just need some friendlies against stronger teams outside CONCACAF (as do the Tricolores), so we don't suck again in 2010.

[Wii] Damn it

sulli sulli writes  |  more than 7 years ago All this Wii talk has me wanting one, but I don't feel like paying above retail on ebay, or holding my wee. When should I plan on it being on amazon for normal ordering?

2007

sulli sulli writes  |  more than 7 years ago Finally! Am I the only one who has been thinking in 2007 for weeks if not months?

In any case, happy new year, all, and happy new beer to all who enjoy that sort of thing!

"Peace Not Apartheid"

sulli sulli writes  |  more than 7 years ago The anti-Carter campaign is predictable but off the mark. Anyone who follows the Israeli-Palestinian debate knows that the the term "apartheid" is commonly used by opponents of the wall that divides Palestinian communities in the West Bank. (Or the "separation barrier" as the Israelis call it.)

It's a good idea to have a fence - but the fact that the Israelis have used it to unilaterally declare borders inside the Palestinian areas, and have extended the policy to roads inside Palestine, has meant that Israelis and foreigners in the West Bank are treated materially differently from Palestinians solely on the basis of their race and religion, and if that's not discrimination, I don't know what is.

Security is important, but if that is the case, Israel should get rid of the settlements and withdraw to internationally recognized borders. Then they can - and should - build as big a wall as they would like.
