Could they have picked a worse spokesperson? His English was barely intelligible with such a heavy French accent. Why did we need him to even speak when Jonathan from the IKEA Foundation did such a fine job at explaining everything?

Canon Shows the Most Sensitive Camera Sensor In the World

technix4beos Re:Terrible Video (218 comments)

Thanks for your vote of confidence. :D The video reminds me of the low quality tv commercials back in the day that would extol the virtues of 'next generation' tv's, which then induces forehead slapping moments of brevity. :D But seriously, I digress. There are many choices to show high quality demonstrations of next generation technology, such as posting it on YouTube, Vimeo or the like. This seems like some kids school handycam video, badly edited, with no presentation skills whatsoever. Ever hear of smooth transition effects in a modern video editor? Apparently not. And how about actual side by side comparisons instead of fading in and out and then showing different angles. Retarded. Someone better be scolded over this video, because its actually rather embarrassing to say the least.

Missouri Law Says Students, Teachers Can't Be Facebook Friends

technix4beos Keyword: Exclusive (415 comments)

Lets break this down (emphasis mine):

"Teachers cannot establish, maintain, or use a work-related website unless it is available to school administrators and the child’s legal custodian, physical custodian, or legal guardian. Teachers also cannot have a nonwork-related website that allows exclusive access with a current or former student."

As far as my understanding of (for example lets use a social site, there is the option of non-exclusive access available by its users; the entire internet-enabled world can read, view and even interact with the page, thus not being limited to any sort of exclusivity paradigm. The mere fact that a website allows exclusive access is akin to saying that a classroom allows a teacher and student to remain in it after the rest of the class has left. Should a teacher be fired for talking one on one with a student? What about if they met at a cafe, library, or other non-school, open and/or public facility/location to discuss life, the universe and fish? Etc.

This ruling is tantamount to stripping away their right to free assembly, freedom of speech and freedom of relations. Trying to micro-manage how a teacher teaches and lives their lives, and also managing the lives of the innocent seems very very wrong here.

Google Says Microsoft Is Driving Antitrust Review

technix4beos Oh please. (295 comments)

This is a non-issue. People use's website of their own volition. The search results come from Google's database, there is no hindering of businesses or anti-trust issue here at all since all of the information gleaned on the internet is already present. Google merely presents it how they deem necessary to match the search keywords.

TL;DR: Fuck off.

Ideas For a Great Control Room?

technix4beos Environment factors (421 comments)

Do ensure that it has nearby and adequate washroom facilities. Nothing worse than having to travel up a couple flights of stairs every time personnel has to take care of nature, know what I mean?

Adequate lighting, and ventilation / heating / air conditioning is also something to consider. Nothing worse then working in winter with cold fingers, let me tell you.

I've been NOC for just shy of 3 years now, and I can tell you the environment you work in plays a huge role in how comfortably you handle the workflow. Its nice to focus on the more technical bits such as equipment and infrastructure, monitors, etc, but do not forget that people have to comfortably be there for hours at a time. We do 12 hour shifts here, and the most important consideration would be the temperature and air quality, imho.

Happy New Year

technix4beos technix4beos writes  |  more than 11 years ago

Another year has gone by.

You know, time, it sure does fly.

I wonder, oh why.

Ok, that's my lame attempt at haiku.

Honestly though, I can be pretty creative when I want to, but these past few weeks have left my brain as mush, with the only relief being able to play Diablo II in my spare time. ;)

Some future thoughts: I'm thinking of creating a new D2 character, just for ebay, and going crazy with it.

Dunno. Is it a moral issue? So many moral issues in life, it makes you wonder how we've succeeded in staying alive as a society at all.

Anyone out there who is a computer enthusiast, living in europe, and into music/art/sci-fi, and of the female persuasion?

I don't drink, smoke, drugs, and generally live a healthy lifestyle.

Well, enough of my rambling for now. Take care.

I was thinking of doing something bloggerish before, but now that I've found this neat little section, I might expand my /. home some more.

In case you don't know, I'm an avid BeOS user, I own The BeOSJournal, help with numerous other BeOS related sites, advocate BeOS where possible, and generally have a good time doing it.

Let's see... my current bio.
I hate repeating myself.

I currently live in NL, moving from Canada, and away from US influences. I abhor large corporations such as Mall Wart, Indiblow, Microshaft, and others...

Power to the little people! ;-)
