Redundant? OK...I was adding to his point. Maybe someone just didn't like what I said.

Mod parent up. Slashdotters (and the technology world in general) need to be less pretentious about everything.

A First Look At Internet Explorer 8 RC1

thealsir Re:Why It Takes an Extra Minute (271 comments)

There are legitimate reasons why Acid3 isn't that important of a test, but that isn't one of them.

Against Unknown Viruses, Avira AntiVir the Winner For Now

thealsir Re:yay (170 comments)

Yep, and of course that ad window goes away completely when you buy it. Avira is one of the less verbose suites out there; I'm not sure what the GP is talking about. He might have it confused with AVG...now that is a pop up happy Antivirus.

Why try to change long-held erroneous beliefs? People should just learn to get over it. /sarcasm

Why the Widening Gender Gap In Computer Science?

thealsir Re:Obvious.... (1563 comments)

Girls who view CS guys as fags have failed on a critical level: respect. Ignore these girls, go for the good girls who won't demonize you because of your occupation or demeanor.

Why the Widening Gender Gap In Computer Science?

thealsir Re:Obvious.... (1563 comments)

You should have approached them. When women are interested in you that makes it that much easier for you to approach them.

If what you're saying is true, I don't think you realize the opportunity you passed up.

So men having to do most of the approaching work is a bullshit rule, so what? Work with what you have. You can't be superhuman and change everyone's mind about this...at least not within a lifetime.

Why the Widening Gender Gap In Computer Science?

Don't worry. I hear you. I'm a guy and I can see how being assaulted by this stuff daily is not funny, in fact it ranges between the extremely annoying and extremely creepy.

How many browser tabs do you have open right now?

thealsir Re:Someone should fix the poll (521 comments)

Now THAT's a rather interesting option. Thanks for tipping me off about that.

I imagine it wouldn't work that well for people who tend to site-surf, but I'm among those who tends to have many tabs of a particular site open.

Adblock can't come to Chrome soon enough.

New AMD Processors Aiming Between Laptops and Netbooks

thealsir Re:Far too many big corps are unhappy with netbook (77 comments)

I think AMD will be kept afloat by ATi. That said, I agree that this is less of a financial opportunity for them than it seems due to the reasons you pointed out.
