Ask Slashdot: How Do You Stay Fit At Work?

thmsdrew Re:A couple simple rules (635 comments)

Yeah I'm sure you're the epitome of healthiness with a soup-only diet. There's a difference between staying fit and losing weight.

My cumulative GPA, thus far:

thmsdrew Re:Overlapping ranges (441 comments)

<= 2.0, then. 2.01 goes to the first, 2.52 goes to the second, 3.03 goes to the third, 3.54 goes to the fourth. Make a compromise. It's an estimation, obviously, but it would give an idea of the range of GPAs.

thmsdrew Re:Overlapping ranges (441 comments)

What's wrong with:

  • < 2.0
  • 2.1 - 2.5
  • 2.6 - 3.0
  • 3.1 - 3.5
  • 3.6 - 4.0
  • > 4.0

Blizzard Has a Version of Diablo 3 Running On Consoles

thmsdrew The game still has its flaws (147 comments)

I hope it's a rather small subset of their employees that are exploring this console thing. The game needs a lot of work to be even close to its full potential, and I would think their time would be much better spent working towards that.

The Coming Wave of In-Dash Auto System Obsolescence

thmsdrew Re:What we need is a modular and hackable approach (445 comments)

You also have a choice to not buy a car. If it's important enough to you, make the dash system one of the deciding factors when choosing a car.

Bill Gates Talks Windows Future, Touch Interfaces

thmsdrew Re:Like Apple? (198 comments)

You're giving reasons other than luck for all of those things, though. Luck has nothing to do with them. Timing, maybe? Or some kind of knowledge? Not luck.

Bill Gates Talks Windows Future, Touch Interfaces

thmsdrew Re:Like Apple? (198 comments)

#1 and #2 aren't luck. They're just the way things happened. "Could haves" don't imply luck at all.

Replace 'to' with 'towards'. I think that's the meaning they're trying to convey.

What's it like to have knowledge that you don't understand? That concept doesn't make sense to me.

First Mummies May Have Been Inspired by Field of Corpses

thmsdrew Re:Getting... colder (78 comments)

First Mummies being a more contemporary, popular band. Everyone loves their music, thinks they're so original, pioneers, etc. Then we discover they were actually inspired by Field of Corpses?! Oh gosh!

New State-Sponsored Malware "Gauss" Making the Rounds

thmsdrew Re:Yet another part of the world getting pissed of (106 comments)

I made that mistake verbally in 4th grade when I didn't really know what the word meant. There was a kid in our class from Lebanon. We were talking about how you can tell where a person is from by the shape of their skull or something, so we were all shouting out different nationalities. I shouted "Lesbian!" Haunts me to this day.

How Apple and Amazon Security Flaws Led To Mat Honan's Identity Theft

thmsdrew Re:Multifactor Authentication (222 comments)

I won't take my security advice from him, but there's no need to discredit his entire body of work because of this. Surely he deals in other topics.

Craigslist Demands Exclusivity For Postings

thmsdrew What's stopping you? (160 comments)

What's stopping you from changing up your advertisement a bit on different websites? You put up a specific advertisement that they own the rights to? So change a few words, leave some details out, add some different details. No problem. You'd probably end up doing that anyway to cater to the specific medium you're advertising on.
