Arizona "Papers, Please" Law May Hit Tech Workers

tjones Re:I'mma boycotting the boycott. (1590 comments)

I think you'd be surprised what business goes on in Arizona.

Let's just say if you've got the latest intel processor, or an iPod, or if your company just bought a shiny new Sun box (I know, not as likely as last year), there's a good chance it or parts for it were built, programmed, or integrated in a Phoenix suburb.

Oh yes, and a former San Francisco icon had decided to move it's headquarters to that same suburb a few years ago. Don't know how far along that ever got. I'll give you a hint, stagecoach.

Some Early Adopters Stung By Ubuntu's Karmic Koala

tjones So far (1231 comments)

So far I've found that flash doesn't seem to work anymore, despite being the latest version. Also, I still have the old "Roll 'em up" pinball game, played fine under Ubuntu 9.04, gets choppy at times under 9.10.

I was almost convinced that there was a DNS problem, but it just so happens that my ISP decided to start sucking again right after the upgrade.

NSA Whistleblowers Reveal Extent of Eavesdropping

tjones Am I the only one (222 comments)

Hasn't anybody read the book "The Puzzle Palace"? This stuff has been going on for a very long time.

I can remember throwing random mentions of the phrases "nuclear bomb" or "atomic bomb" to add chaff to the system in the late 80's and early 90's when I was in Europe.

Anyone who doesn't know that all international phone calls are being monitored by any one of several governments automated systems hasn't been paying attention for the last 25+ years.

ssh, guitar, touchscreen, what's not to love?

tjones tjones writes  |  more than 4 years ago

tjones (1282) writes "The nice folks over at hackaday have found the ultimate nerd guitar. It's running gentoo on an embedded 500MHz geode chip to act as a MIDI controller. 24 frets stand tall over a touchscreen, and the demo video show that it shreds! The creator has promised to release the source code, so C++ hackers should have plenty to play with. Which leaves only two questions, when is it going to available? And how much does it cost?"
