A 24-Year-Old Scammed Apple 42 Times In 16 Different States

tomlouie Re:Exploited procedural loophole (411 comments)

> 1: The clerk is the one that should be calling for an approval code, and the call is made not to the cardholder's bank but rather to the bank that processes the cards for the retail store. It doesn't matter what the customer's bank says (or in this case the fake bank) since the approval/authorization code must come from the retailer's bankcard processor.

Read again, the clerk should be calling the store's bank, not the customer's bank.

It's Time For the Descent Games Return

tomlouie Re:Along with the 3x speed strafe bug? (251 comments)

Was it really 2x faster? I thought that it was only 41% faster. Vector math: square root (1^2 + 1^2) = 1.41...

With three axis, you'd get a 44% boost. cube root of (1^3 + 1^3 + 1^3) = 1.44....

Did the Ignition Key Just Die?

tomlouie Re:No, thank you. (865 comments)

> I want to start my car, leave it running, lock it and run into a building for a couple of minutes. I can take my RF key out of the car, but with the car running it won't let me lock the door.

Try this, it should work:
1. with engine running, step out of car with keys in hand.
2. close door, and lock it from outside with physical key.

Bennett, you just summarized your 2,000+ word textwall into a single 24 word sentence. Was that so hard? Seriously, a single summary sentence at the start of your submissions would be greatly appreciated.

An Engineer's Eureka Moment With a GM Flaw

In an automatic, wouldn't normal engine braking allow the wheels to convert vehicle kinetic energy into engine movement? Or is it a matter of being in Drive versus LowGear ?

Engine Data Reveals That Flight 370 Flew On For Hours After It "Disappeared"

tomlouie Re:What about radar? (382 comments)

Give it up man. You tried to dumb down a description of a complex system, and crossed the line when you said "It's an active WiFi locator beacon".

If you had said "it's *like* an active WiFi locator beacon", you may have gotten less grief about it.
