California DMV Told Google Cars Still Need Steering Wheels

tooslickvan Re:Not surprising (506 comments)

"I agree, having a manual break should be required as a bare minimum."

A manual brake would be even more useful, along with a kill switch for the engine.

No, a manual break, such as sledgehammer to the wheel or knife to the tire, will work just fine.

Amazon Announces 'Fire Phone'

tooslickvan Re:prices (192 comments)

It seems like Amazon equates off-contract with prepaid. Try searching for unlocked phones and the Galaxy S5 ($589) is number 6 on the top sellers. http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sel...

Amazon Announces 'Fire Phone'

tooslickvan Re:Perhaps not the best name (192 comments)

Actually, Fire Phone is a great name the phone because if it catches fire but with a battery defect that causes it to catch on fire it will be too difficult to write headlines like Amazon CEO fired for Fire Phone fires that no one will be fired since no one will understand what's going on.

Tesla Releases Electric Car Patents To the Public

tooslickvan Re:Trust but verify (211 comments)

A clearer statement than "we took our plaques off our wall" is needed, but assuming there is a clear statement from Tesla that they will only use these patents defensively, anyone who takes them at their word should be safe.

Telsa should have the CEO publicly post such a statement where Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use their technology. This will be quickly picked up by tech blogs and linked to the statement.

Sony Selling Off VAIO Computer Business

tooslickvan Re:Sad news (204 comments)

No one wants to use Linux or Windows. Have you tried to use an operating system? All you can do is copy files and set the time. It's fun the first few times, but it becomes boring really fast. No, people do not want to use an operating system; they want send email, browser the web, check stock quotes, send goofy pictures to their friends. That's what they want.

Apple Isn't the Next Microsoft (and That's a Good Thing)

tooslickvan Re:Comes to show to trust NO ONE (269 comments)

I think the reality distortion field must have hit you pretty hard. Apple has been accused of producing expensive crap ever since the Lisa and Macintosh were sold. Apple has never been a big proponent of free or open standards; they have been using propriety standards for Macs, iPods, and iPhones since their creations. While Steve Jobs did write the open letter for the music industry to stop requiring DRM, he was also criticized for doing nothing for movies (especially since he owned Pixar at the time).

Reason On How and Why 38 Studios Went Bust

tooslickvan Re:blah blah Capitalism Evil blah blah (227 comments)

Wrong, capitalism is the most efficient system ever devised for creating wealth not the best system ever devised for creating wealth. Best is a qualitative term and can not be measured subjectively.

The History of 'Correlation Does Not Imply Causation'

tooslickvan Re:Maybe (223 comments)

After that, I started holding laptops exactly like that, making people cringe. True story.

Correlation is not causation. I think you need to perform a few studies to prove that you caused people to cringe.
