Student Sues University Because She's Unemployable

tritonman Re:Now write the skit. (1251 comments)

This is quite true. When I got my BS is CS, I had to take a class on Ecology. Yea, ecology, who gives a crap about it? So I had to write some stupid liberal paper on how some poor cute owl is losing its habitat or something meaningless like that. Anyway, I googled the animal and found a nice essay which I didn't copy word for word, but pretty much used every fact on that paper I could find. The professor was smart enough to do the same thing and pointed out to me that it was obvious that I just googled and got all the info from this paper, so I only got a B- on the paper.

Ireland Criminalizes Blasphemy

tritonman Re:We Still Have Blasphemy Laws (1376 comments)

I think nowadays it's perfectly fine in America to say something that offends most everyone, as long as you don't offend any minorities, then it's a hate crime.

Supreme Court Declines Case Over Techs' Right To Search Your PC

tritonman Re:Justice... (485 comments)

Yes, Justice. The company was testing out the software they were installing for the DVD, while doing that they saw that there were child porn videos. The company has an obligation to humanity to tell the authorities, this person is promoting children being sexually abused, give me a break if you don't think it's justified. Should they be allowed to just randomly search your drive, no, not really. Still if they find something like that, they should report it and it should be usable. If you don't like it.... DONT LOOK A PICTURES OF NAKED CHILDREN YOU SICK @#$@#

Video Game Adaptation In the Works For A Song of Fire and Ice

tritonman Re:I would prefer... (183 comments)

Well, he made a promise... At the end of his previous book he said that most of the work for the next book was already finished and he was splitting it into two books. He said that IT WILL BE PUBLISHED NEXT YEAR! This was in 2005. Ok just 4 years later and still nothing, it probably won't come out this year either!

The "Dangers" of Free

tritonman Re:Fair beats Free (242 comments)

This is more than a software issue though, when it gets to services such as newspapers, this is where more problems come into play. Lots of people losing jobs at newspapers and whole businesses going under because of the flux of online news sites, many of which just repost stories written by newspapers and sometimes have conflicting information. What can you do about this though? Nobody wants the government to regulate all of this, but what can be done without it?

Google Mows With Goats

tritonman Re:How were they transported? (466 comments)

in addition to the fact that the mowers would be transported to the site which would cause carbon emissions, mower engines are extremely inefficient and moving the area would most likely release more carbon than transporting the goats back and forth 100 times.

A "Photo Op" causes 9/11-style panic in NY

tritonman tritonman writes  |  more than 5 years ago

tritonman (998572) writes "Someone thought it would be a great idea to low-fly a 747 over NYC without telling the public or even the mayor in advance. This of course caused major panic in the streets. A "furious" Mayor Bloomberg denounced the dunces who dreamed up the stunt — and the NYPD officials and bureaucrats who never told him about it."

Obama says 3% of GDP should fund science R&D

tritonman tritonman writes  |  more than 5 years ago

tritonman (998572) writes "Obama wants to set a goal that the US spend 3% of it's GDP on scientific research and development. "I believe it is not in our character, American character, to follow — but to lead. And it is time for us to lead once again. I am here today to set this goal: we will devote more than 3 percent of our GDP to research and development," Obama said in a speech at the annual meeting of the National Academy of Sciences."

Crabs can feel pain

tritonman tritonman writes  |  more than 5 years ago

tritonman (998572) writes "A new scientific study suggests that crabs can feel and remember pain. From the article: "More research is needed in this area where a potentially very large problem is being ignored," said Elwood. "Legislation to protect crustaceans has been proposed but it is likely to cover only scientific research. Millions of crustacean are caught or reared in aquaculture for the food industry. "There is no protection for these animals (with the possible exception of certain states in Australia) as the presumption is that they cannot experience pain.
Perhaps soon there will be a study to determine that vegetables feel pain as well, then all of the vegans will only be allowed to eat rocks."
