Retired SCOTUS Justice Wants To 'Fix' the Second Amendment

ubergeek65536 Re:Militia, then vs now (1633 comments)

The only reason the Chicago stats have changed is because fewer crimes are written up. The police force there was told to do something about the crime rates so in order to make the crime rates drop they just started ignoring crime.

ubergeek65536 Re:Spreadsheets? (165 comments)

A SQL Server CLR trigger, a message bus, a reactive object. I'm off to try it. Thanks for the idea.

Why Reactive Programming For Databases Is Awesome

ubergeek65536 It is awesome. (165 comments)

I started using reactive extensions for .Net for over a year ago and am constantly learning new ways to use it. UI, message busses, async calls, business objects, the list keeps growing. It is by far the most useful programming concept I've learned in the last year. There is one for javascript if you are not into .Net

GM Rice Passes Unexpected Benefits To Weeds

ubergeek65536 Re:GM Rice NOT passing to weeds (208 comments)

No it doesn't say that it has happened. Only an idiot would release this into the environment.

That would be like the NTSB allowing a car on the road that they expected to explode under normal usage.

Nobelist Gary Becker Calls For an End To Software Patents

ubergeek65536 Just software? (147 comments)

You can apply his arguments to more than software. Patents discourage innovation. Under the current system small companies and individuals end up with a huge disadvantage. Huge companies have enough resources to try to patent everything hope a few are approved.

Jimmy Carter Calls Snowden Leak Ultimately "Beneficial"

ubergeek65536 Re:+5 Insightful for (424 comments)

Yes there will always be the top 1%. The real issue is the enormous economic disparity between the top and the bottom. High crime rates are a direct result of that disparity.

PCWorld Magazine Is No More

ubergeek65536 B'bye (164 comments)

I can't say I'm sorry to see it go. It was like reading a car magazine that explains that cars have four tires in every article.

Birthday Song's Copyright Leads To a Lawsuit For the Ages

ubergeek65536 Re:Protecting the arts and artists (442 comments)

I'm not sure how the parent got modded funny.

The facts are that both parties are owned by corporate interests. If you want to change the world vote with your wallet not with a ballot.

Codec2 Project Asks FCC To Modernize Regulations

ubergeek65536 Not an issue in Canada (89 comments)

In Canada any codec can be used in ham radio as long as the signal fits in the allocated bandwidth for the frequency and no encryption is used. The restriction is that you must publish the method before going on the air.

Toward An FSF-Endorsable Embedded Processor

ubergeek65536 Reconfigurable instruction support (258 comments)

I'd like to see support for a small chunk of FPGA fabric to allow for specialized instructions. I have no idea if FPGAs can be implemented free of patents.

The Last Thing You Read Was

ubergeek65536 no books for me (211 comments)

I've never read a full novel, ever, either fiction or non-fiction. I've tried a few times but never made it past the first chapter without being bored out of my skull.
