Correlation does not equal causation. And anyone that claims otherwise is an idiot, i.e. you.

Infant mortality is not something that can be shown to be clearly linked to vaccinations in such a simple manner.

Here are a bunch more spurious correlations for you to think about:

Correlation does not equal causation. And anyone that claims otherwise is an idiot, i.e. you.

oh yes. surely the respectable names which had their study published in a respectable, nationally indexed medical journal, were stupid to the extent of not being able to realize that, and do their research accordingly.

like me.

only random twats on internet know that correlation does not equal causation and make grandstanding statements by using that.

how about actually going and fucking reading the paper in scribd, and then claiming grandstand ?

statistic is a statistic. anyone who thinks that medical establishment and its think thanks in a country which makes huge money from these would publish such a study, would qualify as a moron.

if you dont like infowars, pick another website. you cant discredit a study because of what websites it was published on. what you find 'credible' may not be wanting to publish it because of private interest.

http://www.infowars.com/new-study-finds-direct-link-between-vaccines-and-infant-mortality/

According to his biography, “Goldman has served as a reviewer for the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Vaccine, AJMC, ERV, ERD, JEADV,and British Medical Journal (BMJ). He is included on the Editorial Board of Research and Reviews in BioSciences.”
Miller, a medical research journalist and the Director of the Thinktwice Global Vaccine Institute, has been studying the dangers of vaccines for 25 years.
“Linear regression analysis of unweighted mean IMRs showed a high statistically significant correlation between increasing number of vaccine doses and increasing infant mortality rates,” the study found, adding that the results demand an “essential” inquiry into the correlation between vaccine doses, biochemical or synergistic toxicity, and infant mortality rates.
Despite the fact that the United States administers the highest number of vaccine doses to children in the entire developed world, 26 before infants reach the age of one, its infant mortality rate is higher than 33 other nations, all of which administer less vaccines. The study clearly illustrates the fact that developed countries which administer less vaccines have lower infant mortality rates, suggesting a direct statistical link between vaccination side-effects and infant deaths.

Radioactive releases in Japan could last months

unity100 (970058) writes "Japanese and American experts are saying that under the best conditions, not only the situation may continue for months, but also the radioactive releases of steam could last for months. Currently, the plant is being cooled off by pumping seawater into the plant, which cools the reactor, and then the now-radioactive steam is released into the atmosphere. Even if the situation is taken under control now, this process may need to continue for months. One senior official put it, “under the best scenarios, this isn’t going to end anytime soon.”"

Considerably priced Mobile/Satellite Internet

unity100 unity100 writes  |  about 4 years ago

unity100 (970058) writes "One of my friends, works in the merchant fleet, going from one port to another as required. Nowadays almost all ships have internet access, but the connections are generally usable for only email sending and receiving, being too expensive for any considerable data usage. There may be found much more solid internet connections in some agencies' ships, but, you need to be lucky to consistently chance up with assignments on these ships.

So, i thought that, if there are considerably priced global, roaming, mobile-usable internet access services present, my friend can acquire one, and solve his internet connectivity issue. Back in 1990s there were companies offering such satellite connectivity, but, it was totally out of the reach of 'normal' people. I am guessing that, since times changed a lot, there may have come up plans that we, the unwashed masses can expect to use, even if we pay a lot of money.

So, what im asking slashdot users is that, do they know of any such reliable and acceptably priced service plans, from any service provider? What are the requirements, connectivity quality, and steps one needs to take to get one and use ?"

The full paragraph within the resolution states that the European Parliament:

Hopes that Canada will fully support the EU's request to open up the ACTA negotiations to public scrutiny, as it requested in its resolution of 10 March 2010, and to have those negotiations conducted under the auspices of an international organisation, the most suitable being WIPO;

In the aftermath of its success in promoting release of the ACTA draft text, it is interesting to see the European Parliament becoming increasingly vocal about the ACTA negotiations. Canada has remained generally silent on these issues and the EP resolution may help coax out a response.""

http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/teknonet/5653536.asp? m=1&gid=112&srid=3439&oid=1

The ban was initiated with the directive of governors, and is enforced by police force. Governors are not elected, but appointed in Turkey, by buraeucratic arm of the government. The 'council' that decides these games are 'violent' and therefore 'harmful are comprised of a hilarious compendium of instutitions, which include national lottery instutition, State monopoly instutition, fiscal police instutition, police force (national) and some branches of health ministry and child health branches of some universities — which with a whopping percentage consist of people who are not even able to turn a computer on by themselves.

The move follows on the wake of the turmoil resulting from a high profile child porn distribution crime case, which was also much hyped by the same major newspapers."

Mass Effect 2 : Can you say 'Eye f@ck ' ? Dumbed down ?

unity100 unity100 writes  |  more than 4 years ago Someone needs to teach the development team of Mass Effect 2 that changing camera angle every 0.5 seconds during dialogue routines does not make your game more 'cinematic' or 'artsy', it just fucks up the player's eye during dialogues and introduces nausea.

Imagine you are following a long conversation with many options, and the camera is changing its point of view on every 0.5 seconds on average. AND on top of that camera is set to look at very odd angles, like very close to someone's elbow looking towards their head. And add to that the conversation target constantly moving about here and there, trying to create a more 'cinematic' environment, and you can imagine the eye sorrow you will endure after 30-45 minutes of play.

Its like watching a low grade porn, in which the directors think that shaking the camera while shooting makes the film more 'art' than 'porn', ending up with neither art, nor porn in the end.

Not to mention that, the 3rd person camera mode makes you feel like you have climbed onto Shephard's shoulders and sitting there like a 9 year old in a football match, while obscuring roughly 20% of the screen at all times. It makes you feel like you are 'playing' Shepard more than you are playing the game through him. Doesnt matter even if you have a 32'' huge monitor, or a huge Plasma, or any weird, gigantic display setup - 20% of your screen will always be wasted on something which will never change - Shepard.

What is actually disturbing in the end is not these design mistakes, but how did bioware prevent you from changing anything to your preference. You cant change camera angle during combat, or out of combat, you cant change the 0.5 sec on average camera angle change during dialogues, you cant change pretty much any positioning/camera related thing in the game. This stems more from their desire to cater to consoles apparently, where you have little possibilities for changing anything related to camera. However it is appalling that they have ported the thing exactly like this to PC, where people have more ability to change to their preference.

Not that in its current state, the game would be 'rational' in regard to human eye capabilities even if on a console + TV setup though.

When we look at its other aspects, we see another design flaw - when you are using the Galaxy map, you are actually prevented from zooming in/ zooming out. What this means is, if you want to get out of a certain level of zoom (ie, in planet or system levels), you will have to actually fly your ship towards the edge of the system in order to be able to zoom out, spending fuel in the process. Silly. Still, spending fuel is not much of a problem (despite being insanely stupid - imagine, you are using a top notch spaceship, but you can only zoom out to see your ship's galaxy map projection if you get out of a system), however, the problem is having to fly towards places you cant see. There is no way to change this either - you have to suffer through this.

Game is also extremely dumbed down. Despite teammate ai working well and this being good, the RPG elements, customization of the game is SO dumbed down that you neednt look at what kind of weapon you are using, how many clips you have left, or upgrade them. Actually, you dont even need to pay much attention to character development of shepard or your team mates. Just pile up points here and there, and it will do just fine.

All the other stuff in the game is dumbed down too - picking up stuff, what you can pick up, what you can use for what, ANYthing is so dumb that you can just click space if you see a blue rectangle highlighting something, and it will be alright. The only thing that is rather distorting such an idyllic object interaction format is rare terminal hacking or case opening sequences. They are also rather simple.

Story also is weak. Its rather like Dragon Age's "Hey, a new blight has come, AGAIN, so lets get a team together and end it, until the next blight comes and Bioware has to put out a game in DA universe again !" format - in this case 'another evil' has come to the universe - and this time its a plague.

One thing ME2 shines, just like DA:O shines is, the execution.

The game's dialogues, graphic presentations, scenery, ALL the items except the big picture (main story) and user friendliness aspects are implemented SO well that, it makes the game enjoyable minus the eyesore it inflicts due to camera woes.

I dont know what hit Bioware in the head that they have started to include user unfriendliness in their games as a fundamental element, despite i can guess what caused them to dumb the game down, and come up with rinse-and-repeatable main stories for their games. However, in order to be able to make great, perfect games like they used to, they need to iron out these issues, asap.

Blown outta my chair

unity100 unity100 writes  |  more than 8 years ago Im was blown outta my chair upon logging in yesterday with the excellent humor in the below link. I must admit that the first gig caught me with my guards down, it read like a real corporate cease and desist with strong wording and formal conduct, whereas while i was warming up my liberal democrat side the humor in the middle of the excerpt hit me real hard. The SIMS thingy - oh man ! What a talent for establishing correlations between totally irrelevant concepts ! http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=183851&cid=15184530/
