Drawings of Weapons Led To New Jersey Student's Arrest

warp_kez Re:New Idea for a Slashdot Poll (630 comments)

4 and I would add the Tandy/Radio Shack x in 1 electronic kits, particularly if you created the timer circuit, trip wire with alarm, or the movement sensor.

Here is Australia we do have possession with the intent to cause fear - cap gun anyone?

Ask Slashdot: Math and Science iOS Apps For Young Kids?

warp_kez The best app ever for science and maths (165 comments)

It is call: Going to the library!

Seriously, teach your kids to use their heads not a glorified calculator.

When they get into the real world, they are not always going to have an iPad or some electronic device to think for them, they will have to use their own heads.

I have a 2.5yo, the first toy I bought him was a slide rule.

Ask Slashdot: Best Console For the Kids This Holiday?

warp_kez Re:The one and only console they will ever need: (267 comments)

Books - just because the school year is over, does not mean the learning just stops.

Have them join a local youth group - not all of them are religious and fanatical or into illegal activities.

Ask Slashdot: Best Console For the Kids This Holiday?

warp_kez The one and only console they will ever need: (267 comments)

A work bench, hammer(s), saw(s), screwdrivers, maybe some power tools, and adult supervision.

Make them use their hands and the brains to build some real memories, ones that can be shared through story telling and physically.

Get them one of those X in One electronic kits and teach them how to make a door bell and other things.

Ask Slashdot: The Search For the Ultimate Engineer's Pen

warp_kez Forget the pen (712 comments)

Look at the material you are writing on. No matter how fine a point you go, or how rapid drying the ink is, it will always bleed.

Paper absorbs moisture - any moisture.

Those globs of dry ink can be caused by the fibres in the paper as the ball/cup scrape across the surface removing dust like particles.

Warp Drive Might Be Less Impossible Than Previously Thought

warp_kez I have seen this episode. (867 comments)

Season 1 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The episode was call "Where no one has been before" and it required the presence of a Traveller to make it work.

But incidentally, Wesley reconfigures the wave to a donut shape.

Australian ISP Wins Case Against Movie Studios

warp_kez Don't celebrate too quickly. (155 comments)

Just because the courts told them to rack-off, does not mean it is a victory.

They will start lobbying politicians with made up figures and bribes to do an end run around due process.

Facebook: Legal Action Against Employers Asking For Your Password

warp_kez I thought it was against the AUP/T&C (504 comments)

I thought it was written somewhere in the T&C and the AUP that it was against the rules to share your password with anyone or even to allow direct access to your profile.

Apple Wins Patent For "iWallet"

warp_kez That is complete BS! (176 comments)

The iWallet has been around for some time, long before NFE was even thought of.

I have an iWallet, and I have had it for 20 years - I hold it out, and the wife, kid, and merchants take what they need/want.

Anonymous Threatens Robin Hood Attacks Against Banks

warp_kez I have seen this movie (529 comments)

It was called Sneakers.

But in the end, this sort of activism proves pointless as some govts guarantee the initial investment of bank customers.

All it would do in the end is destabilise the government and send some countries broke.

Unless that is the eventual goal.

Firefox 9.0 Beta Available

warp_kez Do not like this release schedule at all (291 comments)

Since Firefox 7, it has been locking up periodically when on YouTube, this was supposed to have been fixed with version 8, and nope it is still locking up when closing a flash enabled page.

Seriously thinking of going back to IE, or finishing the migration to Chrome.

New Sony PSN ToS: Class Action Waiver Included

warp_kez Seriously WTF? (378 comments)

Since when can a business create a contract that overrides the law of the land? Oh, that is right, THEY CANNOT!!!!

Sony can put whatever they like into the contract, but it cannot remove rights already afforded by law.

Why the Fax Machine Refuses To Die

warp_kez Hog wash! (835 comments)

It is easier and quicker to use a fax machine, than to use a scanner with or without a sheet feeder to generate a PDF and email it to the recipient.

How to use a fax machine:
1) Get the fax number; 2) Place paper in tray; 3) Type in fax number and press send
How to create a PDF:
1) Place paper in scanner; 2) Press scan; 3) Wait for software to load; 4) Wait for scanner to warm up; 5) Fiddle with software settings; 6) Forget it I give up, where the hell is the fax machine!

PC Designer Says PC "Going the Way of the Vacuum Tube"

warp_kez What a load of horse manure! (685 comments)

Vinyl records are still in circulation and there is still a market for them. Type writers may be less common, but they are still used to teach correct typing manor.

Incandescent light bulbs are more in favour now because they do no contain mercury - didn't a US of A state repeal a law banning them because of health concerns over CFLs?
