Instead of "think of the children" perhaps the new bleeding heart slogan should be "think of the vaginas!"

depends on the crime. pedophiles are actively prevented from having their crimes "forgotten," due to the rate of recidivism.

The Future of Wearables: Standalone, Unobtrusive, and Everywhere

wasteoid Pip-Boy (56 comments)

Probably the most useful configuration, mounting a small tablet to the back of one's forearm. Easy to use, no need to occupy a hand, mostly out of the way when not needed. Kind of like a smartwatch, only more useful due to the larger size. Head-mounted configurations seem prone to issues, especially regarding distractions in the visual area while performing activities requiring full attention.

Big Telecom: Terms Set For Sprint To Buy T-Mobile For $32B

wasteoid Re:Two different tech (158 comments)

metroPCS used CDMA technologies, and after T-Mobile merged with them, they have gradually moved customers over to their expanding GSM/LTE network. Presumably, the same method would occur with Sprint. Comparing both companies' performance, T-Mobile management should persist when merging with Sprint.

LAPD Gets Some Hand-Me-Down Drones From Seattle, Promises Discretion

wasteoid Re:Too bad they might no't be able to use them (108 comments)

If law enforcement only used technology for good, we wouldn't have a problem, but law enforcement is performed by humans, and humans abuse power. This increase in technology increases their ability to abuse others, and since they are law enforcement, they suffer no consequences.

I have also noticed that the more inserts I make, the larger the queue grows, and eventually I have to drop packets. It does relieve the block though.

Broadcasters petition US Supreme Court against Aereo

wasteoid wasteoid writes  |  1 year,11 days

wasteoid (1897370) writes "Aereo provides live-streaming and cloud-based DVR capability for Over-The-Air (OTA) broadcasts to their paying customers. Broadcasters object to this functionality, such as Fox claiming about Aereo, "Make no mistake, Aereo is stealing our broadcast signal." The focus appears to be the ability of Aereo to provide streaming and DVR capabilities that traditional broadcasters have not delivered. The litigious broadcasters are fighting against "Aereo’s illegal disruption of their business model.""

Scientists create new form of matter from photons

wasteoid wasteoid writes  |  1 year,27 days

wasteoid (1897370) writes "We are one step closer to Star Trek replicators and holodecks with the advancement achieved by scientists at the Harvard-MIT Center for Ultracold Atoms. The scientists have managed to coax the photons to bind together to form photonic molecules, a state of matter that was previously only theoretical. Using an ultra-cold version of light refraction, two photons were slowed down sufficiently to cause them to bind together in the ultra-cold media, exiting as a single photon molecule."
