Amazon Opens On-Demand Video Store

wattrlz Re:Mac! (247 comments)

Yay I can watch on my overpriced Mac! Unlike Netflix. :(

Or you could sell your overpriced mac, buy a computer that can view amazon and netflix; and still have money left over for a pony.

Logged In or Out, Facebook Is Watching You

wattrlz Addendum (336 comments)

TFA's source indicates FB gives their affiliates javascript to include in the page that connects to a FB server for cookie exchange. Pretty sneaky. I wonder if google does something like that with google analytics.

wattrlz Re:What if it's an un-used email? (336 comments)

They actually use your facebook cookie, which would contain your school email, to track you. So just delete your cookies and you should be OK.

Wii Pole Dancing Game in the works?

wattrlz wattrlz writes  |  more than 6 years ago

wattrlz writes "Rumors have been making rounds of many appropriate meta-blogs about a company called, "Peekaboo" that makes home pole dancing kits and is looking to market a Nintendo game. From the article:

Peekaboo rep Simon Kay told [this] blog that the idea behind bringing what he calls "aerobic pole dancing " to the Wii is "all about fun and fitness." According Kay, Peekaboo wants the game "to do for pole dancing what Guitar Hero did for rock n roll!" We can't help but imagine that the game will finally give gaming couples with an eye for rhythm a means to use their 'star power' for an added — not to mention motion sensitive — relationship spark./quote

China might be another hurdle in MS yahoo bid

wattrlz wattrlz writes  |  more than 6 years ago

wattrlz writes "
Microsoft's hostile-takeover attempt against Yahoo may encounter an unexpected hurdle in August after a Chinese antimonopoly law takes effect that will extend the nation's economic influence far beyond its borders...Nathan Bush, an antitrust law specialist with O'Melveny & Myers in Beijing, said the law represented the ascendance of China "as another regulatory capital contending for influence with Brussels and Washington."

wattrlz wattrlz writes  |  more than 6 years ago

wattrlz writes "US 193 was supposed to be taken out at 03:30 this morning, but it appears they'll have to try again tonight.

"... The Pentagon said the window of opportunity to strike the 5,000-pound satellite opened Wednesday, when the space shuttle Atlantis landed in Florida... But [The Pentagon] said conditions have to be perfect, and that was not the case Wednesday with swells in the Pacific Ocean west of Hawaii running slightly higher than Navy would like.""

Scientists propose even less efficient solar power

wattrlz wattrlz writes  |  about 7 years ago

wattrlz writes "Scientists at Sandia National Labs in New Mexico have proposed a technique for using solar energy to reverse the combustion process and convert water into hydrogen and CO2 into methane and/or methanol.

...Over the past year they have shown proof of concept and are completing a prototype device that will use concentrated solar energy to reenergize carbon dioxide or water, the products of combustion. This will form carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and oxygen, which ultimately could be used to synthesize liquid fuels in an integrated S2P [Sunshine to Petrol] system... "What's exciting about this invention is that it will result in fossil fuels being used at least twice, meaning less carbon dioxide being put into the atmosphere and a reduction of the rate that fossil fuels are pulled out of the ground,"

Virtuosic scientists shatter virii with laser

wattrlz wattrlz writes  |  more than 7 years ago

wattrlz (1162603) writes "In a development reminiscent of nineteenth century pseudo-science the father-son team of Kong Thon and Shaw Wei Tsen recently demonstrated that the tobacco mosaic virus can be destroyed in vitro by nano-scale mechanical resonant vibrations induced by repeated ultra-short pulses from a laser. The total energy required is reportedly far below the threshold for human tissue damage and the technique should generalize to human pathogens."
