Microsoft Bans Open Source From the Windows Market

wizbit Re:GPLv3, bleh (566 comments)

it says, "any equivalents" as well. i might argue that GPLv2 and GPLv3 are not "equivalent" but IANAL and that interpretation clearly leads a lot of wiggle room for MS lawyers.

Ex-Sun CEO Warns Oracle of Death By Open Source

wizbit Re:Business vs Open Source (408 comments)

never has been? i suppose the iMac was a disaster for them then?

not now? perhaps they should stop making iMacs, powermacs, macbooks, macbook pros, and macbook airs.

their growth markets are consumer electronics but this doesn't make them a consumer electronics company anymore than microsoft making the zune and xbox discounts their enormous software and services lineup.

wizbit Re:Business vs Open Source (408 comments)

somebody should tell that to Apple, who still seems to be carving out a pretty decent living as a software/hardware company.

selling lots of stuff on iTunes, yes, but making a mint on their hardware, as they always have.

Google TV Details Revealed

wizbit Re:Roku + media streaming (180 comments)

It's called the Boxee Box. I know, I know, Google TV et al will eat its lunch eventually, but it basically does everything you claim to want. At $200, it's cheaper than upgrading my home media player (though I don't know about "one for every room").

Brad Fitzpatrick headed for Google?

wizbit wizbit writes  |  about 7 years ago

sootzoo writes "LiveJournal founder Brad Fitzpatrick, who sold his company, Danga Interactive, to Six Apart two years ago, has vested his shares, declared his boredom with Six Apart, and after weighing offers from Google and Facebook, has chosen to head to Google, a source close to Fitzpatrick says. The only reason that Six Apart management hasn't announced it, the source adds, is that they can't figure out how to spin it."

Mark (122290) writes "The Washington Post, reporting on Hewlett-Packard's Chairman Patricia Dunn and alledged spying on other HP board members, has now obtained e-mails that implicate the CEO, Mark Hurd, who approved an elaborate "sting" operation on a CNet reporter.

From the article:
HP's leak investigation involved planting false documents, following HP board members and journalists, watching their homes, and obtaining calling records for hundreds of phone numbers belonging to HP directors, journalists and their spouses, according to a consultant's report and the e-mails.
