Kansas Delays Municipal Broadband Ban

wizkid Re:Good (156 comments)

Say what you will about the big telcos that have buildings and pop's in the area. They won't provide broadband. Yes they're there and selling services to businesses. they won't touch broadband though. That would create competition. The only way to open up competition will be to encourage small business to come in and provide a better product. The telco's would rather spend money on lobbyists then put fiber in the ground.

Alsop is the Judge. One of the few good ones left. He'll probably Fillet the DOJ and serve them up for lunch. Unfortunately, the DOJ will appeal when they don't get their way.

You've lost sight of your own Constitution and what you stand for.

The DEA lost sight of the oath they took a long time ago.

Now you're a bunch of witless idiots cowering in the dark.

Can't go along with that. I think corrupt morons is closer. Egotistical Assholes might also fit the bill.

Canonical To Ship Mir Display Server In Ubuntu 13.10

wizkid Re:Exciting (122 comments)

The problem is that security holes show up in the screws. one day, instead of holding secure, they get smooth and so they have to do a security update. If they kept the same flathead design, so you could use the same damned screwdriver, then replacing the screw wouldn't be a issue. So you end up not having a choice, you have to buy the new screwdriver.

Of course I don't have that problem. I switched to mint screws. I can still use my flat screwdriver.

Andrew Auernheimer Case Uncomfortably Similar To Aaron Swartz Case

wizkid Re:Prosecute, Prosecute, Prosecute (400 comments)

Agree in part, but as long as 80% of the voters watch Fox News and attack ads and do what the rest of the 80% of America tells them to do we're going to end up with more of the same.

It's not just Fox News. CNN, MSNBC ABC are all pumping out filtered garbage too. It's sad, but the US is now the land of the sheep. Almost nobody thinks for themselves. The first amendment has become a joke, because the corporations have been allowed to buy all the news outlets, and they only let you see what they want you to see.

Apple v. Samsung Jurors Speak, Skipped Prior Art For "Bogging Us Down"

wizkid Re:judge will invalidate (506 comments)

I've been following the trial on groklaw and the news. This judge has less then impressed me. She did a lot of things that I question. That being said, I'm not a expert on courts and the law. But, with what I've seen, I question whether she will overturn this jury. I think it should, just on the public comments from the jury, but the whole trial sounded to me like they were railroading samsung.
We'll see how things turn out...

Rackspace: SOPA "Is a Deeply Flawed Piece of Legislation"

wizkid Re:Ugh (213 comments)

He thinks gold, which is a commodity, is the same thing as money.

For most of the time the USA has been in existence, our money was based on the gold standard. This means that we had a gold reserve to back up our money. Gold is sold as a commodity, yes. So what! This has nothing to do with the fact that when we dumped the gold standard, and went to the Federal Reserve to maintain the value of our dollar, we set our selves up to be in the situation we are now with politicians managing the money supply . We no longer have anything worth a shit to back up the dollar, and now the dollar isn't worth a shit. I agree with Ron Paul. When we dumped the gold reserve and went to the F.R. system, we set our system to fail soon as we got the wrong person handling the F.R. And now the value of the dollar is .... Well, go out and try to buy some stuff. The best thing we could do is to phase out the F.R. and go back to the gold standard.

Ask Slashdot: Unity/Gnome 3/Win8/iOS — Do We Really Hate All New GUIs?

wizkid Re:You're asking who? (1040 comments)

Slashdot is always going to give you a tainted answer. slashdot'rs hate everything. If your curious about it tho, check out the downloads on Linux Mint. They've had record downloads, and are zooming up on Ubuntu at a record clip, according to most webstats. I switched to Linux mint instead of upgrading Ubuntu desktop, now it's on my laptop, workstation, and I'll probably try upgrading my company workstation to it when upgrade time comes along.

I still like ubuntu server! But I hate unity with a passion. Read what they plan on doing with Gnome 3! They're talking about putting gnome 2 stuff back on top of gnome shell, and making a hybrid Gnome desktop.

The Linux desktop Developers keep thinking that making the desktop simpler is the answer. And they're doing it by taking away options. Windows is busy putting options back into they're desktop. Someone needs to go beat the Gnome and Ubuntu developers with a clue stick.

Damn, now I'm sounding like a slashdot'r RATS!

Warrantless Wiretapping Cases At the 9th Circuit

wizkid Re:The TLAs and Corporate Lackeys (126 comments)

Yes, It starts at the ballot box. Quit closing your mind and selecting democratic or republican candidates. They've developed a duopoly that locks out anyone working for the people. And we need to find a way to take the power away from the lobbyists. They're the ones writing the bills that get put before congress. IMHO we should get the people to put a amendment to the constitution to increase terms by 50%, and eliminate getting re-elected in office, and make all elections publicly funded and audited. This will cut off at least some of the flow of money to re-election slush funds, of which I suspect are slushed out of elections, and slipped into politicians pockets. You'll never see congress put a amendment out to do this. The only way it will get done is to get a group of people in each state to put the same constitutional amendment on the state ballot box.

Remember that the Constitution starts with "We the People". If we leave it to congress and the White House, they're going to change it to "We the Corporations".
