A Linux Kernel More Stable Than -stable

wrightrocket Re: BSD. (142 comments)

Anyone needing that kind of stability should just use FreeBSD. They know how to put together a rock-solid system, and they have sensible release policies to ensure that their releases are very usable many years after first released.

Even the best "enterprise-grade" Linux distributions pale in comparison to FreeBSD and everything that it offers. It's a complete system that just works.

Just not for enterprise-grade businesses.. who wants a "complete system" that's almost completely dead like anything BSD (Berkeley So Dead)? With Red Hat, they have seven years of support for each major release from a regular subscription contract, and even extended life support contracts for more time than that.

Sony PlayStation 3 Imports Temporarily Banned In Europe

wrightrocket Closed Source Karma (97 comments)

The way Sony treated its customers who wanted to use OtherOS to try to protect their intellectual property is the right way for LG to treat Sony: take it away from them! Since filing complaints and not getting justice, it makes me feel good to see that Sony might have to pay.

Obama Calling For $53B For High Speed Rail

wrightrocket Re:Let's hope they do a better job of picking loca (1026 comments)

Meanwhile, you can't even take AmTrak from Los Angeles to San Francisco. You have to get off and ride the bus. It's been like this for months. Do the politicians seriously think they need to invest in high speed trains when they can't even maintain the normal ones?

Google Publishes Censorship Map

wrightrocket Re:For Flash Sites Add iOS Users (154 comments)

Flash sites should be included as censored, as far as iOS users are concerned.

Oops, jumped to add this comment, and wish I could delete it, since it has nothing to do with a country's request for censorship.

'Bloatware' Becoming a Problem On Android Phones

wrightrocket Step #1 after rooting a Droid Incredible (415 comments)

The first step after rooting my Droid Incredible was to remove bloatware that came with the phone. Shortly after buying my phone, the first post I made to the was, "I can't wait to get root!" Unfortunately, this was just a hopeful comment at the time, and a dream that I was not sure would be fulfilled. A dream less likely for owners of the Droid X.

Why 'Gaming' Chips Are Moving Into the Server Room

wrightrocket Why call the GPU a gaming chip? (137 comments)

It is a Graphics Processing Unit, not a Gaming Processing Unit. Sure, they are great for gaming, but also very useful for other types of 3D and 2D rendering of graphics.

The Secret of Monkey Island Shows Evolution of PC Audio

wrightrocket Has nothing happened with sound since 1994? (348 comments)

So, the last thing they show is CD quality sound from 1994 to present. I was at least expecting to see integrated sound on motherboards... maybe USB or Bluetooth devices, I don't know for sure, but there must be something interesting that has happened with PC Audio in the last sixteen years.

Rest In Peas — the Death of Speech Recognition

wrightrocket Re:Buffalo buffalo (342 comments)

My Droid Incredible had no problem recognizing this sentence. No, it didn't get the capitalization, or the comma, but it got every word and then found the article in wikipedia about this sentence. I've been amazed at how accurate it is at recognition without any training. So, as I see it, speech recognition is alive and well!

HTC Droid Incredible Available To Pre-Order

wrightrocket wrightrocket writes  |  more than 4 years ago

wrightrocket (1664871) writes "I pre-ordered the Droid Incredible at Best Buy yesterday, the first day they became available to order. Today, you can order one from Verizon Wireless as well. With a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8 MegaPixel camera/720p Video, and the new SenseUI from HTC, this phone looks like the best of the Android breed phones and an iPhone killer to me. The press on it that I've seen reports it will be available on April 29th, but the Best Buy representative told me it would be in the store on April 25th. Has anyone else been told when this phone will be delivered?"
