Paypal Forces E-Book Publisher To Censor Erotic Content

wygit Re:That's not the problem (301 comments)

But that wouldn't apply to smashwords. Erotica is a small part of what they sell. They sell lots fantasy & science fiction, and they're one of the larger ebook vendors who doesn't DRM their ebooks.

Paypal Forces E-Book Publisher To Censor Erotic Content

wygit Re:As someone in the payments industry... (301 comments)

I don't buy it.
How do the "partner banks" KNOW what sub-sub-classifications of erotica are getting the chargebacks?

How the GOP (and the Tea Party) Helped Kill SOPA

wygit Re:I'm glad I support the Republicans (857 comments)

Didn't say I wanted to punish him, or even that I was going to vote for his opponent.
Just that I feel stupid for having believed that he might have stood behind the things he was saying.
Just that I can empathize with the people who have given up, because anyone who has a chance of being elected is a fucking sellout.
But no, I'll dutifully trot down to the polls in June and November and vote for whatever candidates make me gag the least.

It's like the response letters I've gotten back from BOTH of my senators, dutifully explaining to me why we must protect the rights of the MPAA and RIAA to the exclusion of mine. But I can vote for them, or I can vote for someone worse, who is against rights that I hold even more dearly.

Sooooooo tired.

How the GOP (and the Tea Party) Helped Kill SOPA

wygit Re:I'm glad I support the Republicans (857 comments)

Alomst every intrusion Bush pushed; Homeland Security, NoNock warrants, NoTell warrants, warrantless searches, control of the Internet, indefinite arrest without charges - The Obama administration has enlarged on.
And I not only voted for him, I campaigned for him.

FDA Regulating Your Stem Cells As Interstate Commerce

wygit Re:Commerce maximalists? (332 comments)

You know, you didn't even have to RTFA for this, just reading the freaking summary would have been enough. Let's try again, shall we?

"A non-surgical procedure that treats joint pain involves removing stem cells from a patient's blood and reinserting them into the joint. The facility conducting these procedures resides in Colorado, but because it orders equipment to perform the procedure from outside of Colorado, the FDA claims it must regulate this process and it that it can classify stem cells as a drug."

How the US Lost Out On iPhone Work

wygit Re:The reason America can't (1303 comments)

You missed the point... The OP was saying no American MANUFACTURING company can match that (being FoxConn, not Apple). Because of trivial things like labor laws, child labor laws, minimum wage, lack of a communist government...

How the US Lost Out On iPhone Work

wygit Free Market (1303 comments)

Why is it that all these "Free Market" GOP candidates never seem to point out that all the manufacturing jobs are going to the dreaded communist countries (or other totalitarian regimes)?

Maybe, just maybe, there's a link between between being obscenely profitable and using labor that has no rights whatsoever?

How the US Lost Out On iPhone Work

wygit Re:No, the US has too much freedom for Apple. (1303 comments)

Or it might mean the difference between astronomical profits and just profits.

"With an estimated bill of materials between $170 to $220, depending on capacity, the manufacturing margins on the iPhone 4S are roughly 71-73%.

That, Whitmore concludes, "should support attractive corporate margins for AAPL for multiple quarters.""

The Bosses Do Everything Better (or So They Think)

wygit Why not? (469 comments)

Why on Earth WOUNLD'T you give your code to your boss if he/she asked for it, no matter how offensively?
It's a copy, for Pete's sake. What are you afraid of, that they'll print it out and scribble on it? (Well, mine might.)

Feds Now Plans To Close 1,200 Data Centers

wygit Re:Figures (148 comments)

So if there something wrong under a Democrat administration, it's the President's fault, but if there's something under a Republican administration, it's Congress's fault.

OK, I get it.

What's Keeping You On XP?

No, but why would we move now on news that the XP will stop getting patches two and a quarter years from now?

Are you saying Linux offers a BETTER gaming experience, better options, better game selection at the present time?

is trashing movie audio becoming S.O.P?

wygit wygit writes  |  about 6 years ago

wygit writes "Has anyone who's seen Twilight run into this?
http://twitpic.com/nlpf
( Sorry, iPhone pic through safety glass )

During the final fight scene, sure enough, the sound went dead for 5 seconds, came back for 10-20 seconds, died again, came back again, and died a third time... as the sign said, some kind of "security" thing in the print.

Was it really all the prints, Century Theaters only, or just the Downtown Sacramento theater?

It's the gorram stupidest thing I've ever seen...

Let's go pay the inflated prices at the theater for the "theater experience", which now includes intentionally farking up the audio and destroying the mood of the big fight scene, so we can tell, somehow, what print a pirate copy was made from.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this?"
