Microsoft Paid NFL $400 Million To Use Surface, But Announcers Call Them iPads

wyoung76 Breach of contract, surely? (405 comments)

If they don't have some breach of contract or revenue clawback due to all this silliness, then Microsoft have only themselves to blame for the lack of positive marketing and publicity.

Where Next-Generation Rare Earth Metals May Come From

wyoung76 Re:Mineral Cartels in China? (179 comments)

So, what if the compliance costs of maintaining supply to the country are considered "too high"?

Or, perhaps the market isn't considered valuable enough and the supply will simply dry up anyway...

Or the import costs will make it prohibitively expensive (despite the moral high-ground you're taking)..

Or.... ad infinitum...

Can Computers Be Used To Optimize the US Tax Code?

wyoung76 Re:My version (730 comments)

No, a flat tax is a regressive tax. Meaning it has a higher impost on the less-able to pay in society, because the "flat tax" is a higher proportion of their total income.

Slashdot Launches Re-Design

wyoung76 No proper support for Nokia N85 mobile browser? (2254 comments)

All of the always-on-top floating top and side bars almost completely block all the actual content. It's pretty much preventing me from doing anything useful on the trips to/from work each day. Now I actually notice how bad public transport really is...

Google Publishes Censorship Map

wyoung76 Traffic report for Singapore end of May 2010? (154 comments)

Looking at the 6 month traffic report for Singapore, what happened towards the end of May and onwards? There's a precipitous drop in traffic for the unencrypted Google Search traffic down to less than half the pre-June traffic levels.

Bill Gates' Plan To Destroy Music, Note By Note

wyoung76 How is that evil in the long run? (659 comments)

If we get access to install any new operating system that we desire, and to use the PS3 for whatever reason we want, then how can that be bad?

If Sony is circumventing the tariffs by being "forced" into making the PS3 more open (and I use that term guardedly), then we still benefit a LOT more than by owning an Xbox360.

Google Wants You To Be Its Unpaid Muse

wyoung76 They could make your idea real... for free (227 comments)

Most people I know (myself included) have a lot of ideas, both good and bad, but have no idea or resources to make the idea into a marketable and/or profitable idea. The fact that your idea could be made real by anyone else and accessible worldwide is pretty much its own thing to brag about.
