yobjob Warranty Period (1215 comments)

Two words: Warranty period. When my 12 months are up, on comes Ubuntu.

I'd rather my paycheck be denominated in ...

yobjob Re:Australian mining stock (868 comments)

I would prefer taking company equity / listed shares via a salary sacrifice option. No tax on the initial income and a growing tax advantaged income stream from dividends.

How many languages do you speak on a daily basis?

yobjob Re:I only speak 2 languages.... (674 comments)

My chinese coworker says he picked up English in one year when working in hotels, and in 19 years still can't understand 'Strayan.

Australian Buyers Say They Were Told "No iPad Without Accessories"

yobjob Re:Bad summary (412 comments)

Before JB Hifi I had to search 5 different CD stores over 3 square km (in a city of 1 million people) to find some albums I wanted, and I was paying more for them 15 years ago (not in real terms, raw dollar for dollar). Yeah you know what, they pull some shit, but life got easier after they came along, and I get more shit for the dollar. Suck it up and don't buy an iFad.

Treasury Goes High-Tech With Redesigned $100 Bills

yobjob Re:Still out of date (515 comments)

We still haven't perfected the technology. Or more to the point, perfected the technology for $5 notes. The rest are fine, the 5's fall apart all the time. Baffling.

Massive Solar Updraft Towers Planned For Arizona

yobjob Re:Plenty of consulting dollars to be spent (572 comments)

I've been watching Enviromission not build a solar tower in regional Victoria (Australia) for a decade now. Not building one in the United States is a real step up for these guys.

World's Tallest Building To Open Monday

yobjob Re:Great timing (360 comments)

I'm not the other guy, but I'd agree here. Australian cities across the board are not very safe for cycling, the clear exception being Canberra. Although it's rather ironic that Canberra, the safest cycle city with dedicated bike only lanes to every corner of the metropolitan area, is the only city in which I've been hospitalised from "Car v Bike" injuries! I'd still rate Sydney as the worst overall, with Adelaide having the most individually dangerous roads, and Perth being too far away to care.

And of course, this has just about as much to do with Dubai's stunning achievment in engineering as people getting stabbed in Melbourne. My, what an emotional thread this is!

yobjob Re:As evil as it sounds... (225 comments)

It's this sort of attitude that makes me want to move to the United States. Freedom is unqualified. If someone wants to handle things the 'immature' way then that's their choice - if they're free. No compromise. You're free or you're not.

Caffeinated Alcoholic Drinks May Be Illegal

yobjob Re:Shoot, there goes my Irish Coffee. Is Decafe ok (398 comments)

One is a sedative, the other a stimulant. Mixing the 2 is a reliable way to have a heart attack. Especially when combined with other high risk factors such as lack of exercise and obesity. It's the same principle for why one should never mix prescription drugs without professional advice.
