How the Outdated TI-84 Plus Still Holds a Monopoly On Classrooms

zippo01 Re:TI calculators are not outdated, just overprice (359 comments)

The problem with different venders is they would have a different procedure to do different things. They want everyone to have the same one so they only have to explain it once. I agree with you that it does what it does and why and that the price is out of control. Not that they need something more. I still have my ti-82 on the shelf... hah

People Who Claim To Worry About Climate Change Don't Cut Energy Use

zippo01 This is just how people are. (710 comments)

People have a choice. Different cooking fuels, different hearing sources, not using A/C, Driving a smaller car (electric cars are not very piratical for a lot of people). This just goes to show that most people who bitch and complain aren't willing to to do without. They want to force the change at the top. Power companies/society. This will not work. They don't see how closing US coal plant just moves it overseas, put our people out of work and more. If anything you want it in the us where it is more tightly regulated! I say give them what they want close all US coal/natural gall plants tomorrow. Coal 39% Natural Gas 27%. With 66% less power, you won't be doing much of anything. and will shut the fuck up about climate change when you feel the real impact of it. Do what is right, conserve where you can and let the industry evolve naturally.

PC Shipments In 2013 See the Worst Yearly Decline In History

zippo01 I don't see why this was unexpected (564 comments)

This just isn't news to me. There is a large percentage of people that don't really need a PC todo what they do. play online, email, Social media, shop, pictuers, etc.... Until a few years ago the PC was the only way todo this so, they bought a PC. They bought an item that designed todo work and tweeked for home use, so it was overly complex for most. Along came the smart phone and tablet. Small, portable, works, it's SIMPLE and does everything they want/need it todo. Couple that with the slowing of PC speeds advances and new techknology, it is no wornder PC sales are down. They will continue to go down until they reach their new equilibrium.

87-Year-Old World War II Veteran Takes On the TSA

zippo01 Aaaah TSA (218 comments)

I almost only read /. for its plethora of TSA stories and comments. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy i'm not the only one who gets love from the TSA. They love me so much that every time I fly, they give me a quick chop to the crotch and all I have to do is refuse the all seeing scanners.

Netflix Pursues Cable-TV Deals

zippo01 Um... (93 comments)

Most people get cable TV from their internet provider (comcast, centrylink, FIOS, etc). If the the provider starts to loose money on the TV end they will just raise the price for internet.

Hardly Anyone Is Buying 'Smart Guns'

zippo01 Its just a dumb idea (814 comments)

Why would anyone buy this? Its a horrible product idea. Take a reliable device and fuck with it. All I want is to know that when I point and click it goes off. Not, my hand isn't held right, the battery is dead, i'm in a fight and its covered in mud, or its just dusty and it malfunctions. Or even worse and a delay, which could cause you to be off target or allow someone else to enter the sight picture. It is a self defeating idea. If you are worried about child protection, buy a safe, teach your kid gun safety. Carry it with you. I could go on for ever.

NHTSA and DOT Want Your Car To Be Able To Disable Your Cellphone Functions

zippo01 Chauffeur's (405 comments)

I think getting everyone a personal Chauffeur is the answer. Fixes the unemployment problem and the cell phone problem. Well other then the chauffeur texting but that's easily solved with electric shocks.

Amsterdam Using Airbnb Listings To Identify Illegal Hotels

zippo01 This is the new norm. (141 comments)

Governments want information. On its own people, on others. Information from places like this is often free and requires no formal request to use or get. Which makes it a win win. This type of thing is only going to get more prevalent. Soon, if not already, massive systems will filter all this data and track everyone, off nothing but open, public and free information. Add that to what they are able to obtain from private companies such as Facebook and twitter etc. It is scary how much governments, not even your own know or can know about you or a place.

Prosecution of Swartz Typical for the "Sick Culture" Pervading the DOJ

zippo01 Re:Ortiz created that problem (443 comments)

If the wire fraud was such an outlandish charge with no cause, then it could have easily been dismissed, by the/a judge or appeal. This would have been done in a hearing long before a trial would have occurred. You say its unprofessional, others would say different. What I am saying is its all subjective.

Prosecution of Swartz Typical for the "Sick Culture" Pervading the DOJ

zippo01 Re:Double Standard (443 comments)

It may, but you have the right to counsel. So the court will pay for it, when dealing with criminal charges? Unless you have the money to pay for it. And if the charges are that outlandish, it is easy to get them thrown out.

Prosecution of Swartz Typical for the "Sick Culture" Pervading the DOJ

zippo01 Double Standard (443 comments)

We have such a double standard in this country. We scream when a person who is charged with a crime, makes a choice and takes their life because they where charged with a crime, that we are to tough. The next day we scream when another person charged with the same or a different crime gets off or only gets a light sentence. It is all subjective to the individual. What do you find important, right or wrong. I have no problem with them stacking charges, as long as they can show cause. The court system is already backed up, could you imagine if every charge when to trial. Nothing would ever get done, and most important people would complain (louder then ever before) about being called for jury duty all the time. You can't blame others, for the choice of an individual to take their life. If you do, where does the blame end? It wouldn't...

North Korea Launches Long-Range Rocket

zippo01 Thank-you Dear Leader (384 comments)

When you are willing to let your people starve and work them as slave labor, then kill them, sanctions doesn't really matter. What is the saying, I don't care about money, give me minions. This will continue until China steps in or the country revolts, which due to the level of imprisonment, propaganda, force, and international apathy is unlikely. Think about it. Who will be responsible to clean up the mess if the country falls? China? The US? Its easier to just let them be.

Stephen Hawking's Biggest Mistake.

zippo01 zippo01 writes  |  about 8 months ago

zippo01 (688802) writes ""Stephen Hawking now says light and information may be able to escape from black holes, doing an about-face on the objects that helped cement his reputation as the world’s preeminent scientist, New Scientist reports." Though the article say black holes are not perfectly round, possible allowing light/information to escape, it doesn't sound easy."

Yahoo sells off its URL stash

zippo01 zippo01 writes  |  about 10 months ago

zippo01 (688802) writes "Yahoo is looking to sell off several 29 of its URL's for 3.5 million. "Yahoo is going through some very, very early spring cleaning by selling off a stash of 29 Web domains, including gems like crackers.com, sled.com, and religious.net. OK, that last one might not be such a hot commodity – but it’ll still cost you between $10,000 and $24,000.""
