It is open source, they require community feedback and support. We are used to everything working on desktop Linux now but once upon a time every regular user had to know modprobe, arguments in /etc , chmod just to get sound from their PC on Linux. I still remember IO address and IRQ of my sound card.

I am not saying it is your fault or submit patches. Cyanogen got into this death spiral because at some point, they lost one thing that runs it. Community. Android community hates them. Just 2 years ago people purchased handsets based on Cyanogen compatibility. I heard they even bundled Trudialer as default dialer/phonebook application. Something even lamest company couldn't imagine.

I hate to say it but Chrome is from World's largest advertising company. That is why they are slow(!) or lazy (!) about implementing features that will make advertisers mad.

Just recently, Chrome mobile beta, not final gained the capability to play YouTube videos in background tab. That is the same browser who introduced "every tab runs in its own process" on an operating system which happily runs on 8 core handsets.

If we use& support Mozilla Firefox, it isn't because we are old fashioned. It is because of independence, at least they try.

Comment I'd say Cyanogen but... (Score 2) 395

There is an alternative which performs way better than OEM or Stock Android, Cyanogen. The issue is, other app stores (Amazon, various Chinese) does their own evil things if not switched off.

Google maps is and has always been overrated, disconnected from real World application, its walk and bicycle navigation is a joke compared to "Here" (Nokia) maps.

The only issue here is a good app store, everything else can be achieved with Cyanogen without Google Services.

Actually ARM is just starting to grow to its real potential as super computer type designs are coming out. In a field where the only showstopper is heat and energy usage...

I am sure some new crazy inventions are on their way on mobile too. You know only Atom is out, Intel didn't say anything about Pentium M for example. They just admitted they can't do cheap stuff.

It is because the idiots in JPEG 2000 committee did everything to keep people, especially web browser development teams away from that excellent format.

Now 4K monitors and ultra resolution phones around, watching web developers struggle with 5-6 different files of same photo, I really feel pity. That was a solved problem, both multiple bandwidth& resolution and the compression rate.

There is a reason we deal with JPEG files today, ask JP2 committee. Even MS stayed away from it fearing the patents.

Every single software licence agreement you/kid's parent accept while installing software has a section freeing developer from such charges.

Here is the part from Apache 2.0 licence
